Arsenal transfers 25/26

Twelfth in the League and minus goal difference maybe.

Vermaelen was a Jan signing as well wasn’t he?

No, Summer signing

Auba was.

Other top January signings. It’s just a small matter that we probably won’t/can’t sign anyone of that calibre right now.

Please tell me they didn’t pay 72m Euros for only 70% of the player. ā€œMonaco still own 30 percent of the player’s rights.ā€

Just to clarify, I didn’t say it couldn’t happen. Nor did I ask for renowned January signings.

But rather, that, statistically, and by all accounts, the best opportunity to sign a player is in the Summer break.

I’d strongly suggest that the likes of Auba and VVD were most likely in the works during the previous window…

You also asked why it would be a good idea.
Why do you think it would be a bad one.

Because, if we are determined to purchase in January, it will impact Summer. January transfers feel like a compromise.

Arsenal, unlike many of our rivals, have finite funds to spend on transfer and wages.

Therefore, we need to be as pointed as possible for transfers.

The selection breadth is minuscule compared to Summer, and, I’d make the argument, that the quality of player available is far lower too.

No good team, who is competing, would be willing to let any player of quality go without significant over expenditure.

Choosing to go down this finite spending path tells me then that we can’t possibly be going to do the requisite spending for the needs of transforming the squad then when everyone else will be spending as well.

Didn’t stop us getting Pepe and Tierney in the summer, plus Saliba who will be coming in for next season.

Yeah we spent £100m on Pepe and Tierney but that was definitely offset by the £40m we got for Iwobi.

We got rid of quite a few players last summer didn’t we? We’ll have to do the same this summer to fund any transfers we need.

You’ll be sad Mustafi is leaving?

No just sad he’s still here and back in the first team again.

Where did I say that lol

I’ll be over the moon when he fucks off and our managers can’t be forced to pick him through injuries anymore hah

No, it’s just that it’s not a bad thing if we clear house a bit in the summer. Mustafi, Elneny and Mkhi all will be gone in the summer. Good times ahead.

Snail pace movements are why we are in this mess.
Fucking Leicester and wolves size club challenging us now.
Liverpool in another sphere to us now. Spuds been to a CL final and a joke United set up still above us.

PL is a mess this season. Going to be crazier next season. We’ve been chatting about such a state last season but we really reached a point now where you can’t put a string of wins going and start leading anymore.
Great props to Liverpool being in such form, actually, it’s fucking infuriating seeing them being so good.

This is our big problem.
Everything we do is too little too late and while we dithered over getting rid of Wenger, who was a ditherer himself, other smaller clubs have caught us up.
It could have been us with Klopp, if we had any sense of urgency, and now we’re sitting mid table showing the same lack of activity as we normally do.

Considering how bad Man U, spurs and Chelsea have been this season, we had the perfect opportunity to get above them in the CL places.

There’s clearly not going to be any big signings in this window so we will have to get our business done at the end of this season and we are going to see a lot of activity from all the big clubs.

I just hope we have the sense to identify who we want, get the players in early and get what Arteta needs to turn this mess round because if there’s any more dithering, we are going to become a fixture in the position we’re in.

Our bigger problem is really just bad decisions/transfers, which is why some of us are skeptical of a Jan transfer that wastes resources we need in the summer when the options are more plentiful…

The dithering part I agree with wrt waiting way too long with Wenger and waiting a few months too long with Emery.

But in general, we have entered a new era in the last 5-8 years where we actually spend a lot, we just suck at it.
