Just guessing here but it might be because he’s one of the best managers in the world. ![]()
He’s just an exceptional coach. So tactically on point, very good with working with as little as possible and will always find the best way to extract as much from a player as possible.
I’d love to see what he’d do with our team. Imagine Saliba, Gabriel and Calafiori as a back three and then two wing backs bombing down the pitch providing us with actual width instead of the full backs tucking in to give us extra defensive solidity.
Here is a good article on his tactics:
We beat City to Rice just last Summer in a bidding war so we can do it. Maybe we can’t fight City on every target but PSG? We really should be a better proposition than them, unless the players are chasing stupid wages.
And if we can’t compete with City or PSG, and of course Real and Barca too cause players linked to them usually end up with them, then how do we get to their level?
No one is asking us to spend Chelsea kind of stupid money in this window. We needed to reinforce our offense last Summer, we are now kind of desperate (if we want to boost our chances of winning something this season). The release clauses are there. If we like the player(s), just pull the trigger. We don’t have to spend in the Summer. Even if we don’t win anything, the players get the time to adapt to our style of play, the Premier League, London and Mikel’s cat and we can go full throttle next season.
Can’t make that assumption myself without seeing how our summer business goes
If we end up inactive in this window and have a relatively safe window in the upcoming summer as well, then I think it’s fair to be concerned.
I agree that we can’t really compete against the likes of Man City, PSG or even Man U or Chelsea, if it comes to a bidding war but when the gaping holes in our attack are so obvious, to do nothing sends out a signal that we’re not serious about winning the title.
It seems unlikely we’ll strengthen significantly in this window but at the end of the season there must be at least a couple of top quality attacking signings, with players like Trossard, Jesus and possibly Martinelli being moved on to help pay for them.
We might not be able to compete with richer clubs for Isaac, Kvara or Marmoush, etc, but there are others available like Williams, Gyokeres, Gordon, Muembo, Wirtz, etc, that are an upgrade on what is one of the worst attacking line ups we’ve been putting out in recent games.
Going into next season with the same underwhelming attacking players would be completely unacceptable so If we don’t strengthen these positions our best players might say, like they did when Wenger was here, that the club aren’t matching their ambitions and leave.
I would honestly want to die if this happened
Arsenal make you feel like a person who is so hungry you will take anything as you haven’t eaten for days regarding transfers
AH Sterling & Rashford on flanks would be peak banter
Dont believe it for one second. Hes so far removed from an Arteta player.
Poundland aubameyang, no thanks.
Dude can’t even somersault.
I don’t think City wanted Rice as much as we did but even so, that doesn’t mean we can always outbid them.
Your examples there are two clubs backed by oil nations and two of the historically biggest clubs in history. Getting to that level is the dream of basically every club, so why hasn’t any other club done it? Because it’s hard. We have to be realistic. We aren’t as rich as City and PSG and we aren’t as big as Barca and Real.
Fans can be delusional about our financial power or standing in the game, but in real life, where the game is played, it does matter and we aren’t on the level of some other clubs (in one facet or another).
I agree that we need to make signings. What I don’t agree with is justifying a viewpoint based on certain things that aren’t really accurate in real life.
I think that’s about where I am right now. No January signings in attack would leave me very concerned about this season, and a failure to address the forward issue by the end of the summer window would leave me seriously concerned about the project as a whole. It needs sorting.
I think we’ve largely been pretty patient as a fanbase about attacking signings. I’ve remained sanguine about it despite wanting to upgrade Martinelli for well over a year now, but it is very much reaching the point at which it’s an absolute necessity, not just something “I’d like to see”.
Honestly don’t know how to feel about this
I was willing to wait til the summer before kvara became available.
He was an unrealistic dream signing and now it’s actually on the table. Miss that chance you better bring me wirtz or musiala in the summer as that’s the only reason I could forgive missing this opportunity.
Restless.

I’m at the stage where I would take him :partey:
Hoping for some Sancho-esque revival ![]()
You just know he’s destined to be our new #14 :vinai:
If Rashford was 23/24, I’d be open to it. But he’s not some Saka-youth wonderkid anymore. Rashford is beyond cooked now.
The thing for me is, they got a pass the past summer because it really looked a rough market, especially with the Euros and Copa America slowing things down.
There’s actually more options in this window than back then but there is the off chance that the guy or guys they’re interested in are still not available.
They won’t be able to get that pass from me in the summer though.
Unless things significantly change Jesus is clearly on the out, Trossard is already in his thirties and so is Sterling who I highly doubt extends his stay here.
So even without the factor of Martinelli struggling, we’ll need a refresh up front regardless.
Yeah I’m not saying it’s over. We just need to bounce back in the transfer market ASAP because a few bad ones in a row and your looking over your shoulder with how competitive the PL is.
We definitely need a big midfielder signing and a couple of attackers (one striker, one wide). Defensively and in goal we are sound.
Hopefully the club doesn’t pump £20-30m into a backup gk this summer when another Neto type loan would do.
