I think there’s a limit to what we can do in a single transfer window. Bar Man City, every squad in the league has issues with depth.
You know what’s funny? City is probably another team that’s light now too.
I believe they’ve got the smallest squad in the league as of today, probably the smallest they’ve had in years.
Was just going to say this- take most of their first XI out and they’re there for the taking.
My heart doesn’t bleed, though. They’ve shot themselves in the foot if they haven’t the depth.
I’m actually intrigued to see how they fair with the schedule now. They’ve got some ageing players in there as well that have had their fair share of injury issues.
This honestly could be the time they finally crumble.
This is genuinely one of toughest seasons to predict the winners of anything.
CL open race, EL open race, ECL open race, EPL open race, La Liga open race, Serie A open race.
This could be one the best football seasons ever and we’ve got the WC in winter as well.
Definitely expecting some sort of world ending crisis in 2023.
Pretty easy to predict Arsenal won’t win it, though
I wouldn’t discount it.
I will get slaughtered for this but I think the whole window proves how little talent the is in the game right now.
Why would you get slaughtered for it? Sounds reasonable.
I disagree.
When Brighton is able to spot obscure talents like Yves Bissouma & Cucurella, purchase them for nominal fees and sell them for profit, it just goes to show big clubs are lazy with their scouting.
Talents are there but no one wants to take chances.
I don’t think you deserve to be slaughtered for that but I think it’s quite a PL-centric view. It’s difficult to bring players into this league that truly stand out because it has become essentially a super league. Even teams in the relegation fight can bring in players that could command European football elsewhere on the continent.
Well that’s a fair point on turning a profit but I really don’t feel those players are anything more than functional.
They are not stand out and compared with what’s gone before, just ordinary.
Tbf too them it’s a pretty much functional game now though.
Obscure?? He’s a Barcelona academy product who they spent close to €20m on
There are 100 Barcelona academy products out there, not everyone has a similar career trajectory.
He was definitely not hyped or highly sought after. And 20m euros is hardly a sum these days.
The point is you could easily fetch talents for cheap 20m euros, who can perform enough to become 50m worth.
Moises Caicedo is another talent.
A year ago, he was playing in Ecuador.
Hardly 3 games in, and now everyone wants him
Cucurella was not an obscure talent mate.
Cucurella was playing for Getafe (La Masia product) and Bissouma played for Lille a popular market to buy from. Flipped them for profit which is respectable but many clubs do that.
I think there’s a talent issue but I think the Premier League just has too much money and is too reliant on purchasing players, but you can only purchase so much. United’s bid on Antony is just desperate for example and Chelsea is chasing Aubameyang lol.
Even us, it was necessary but before the season ended we were talking about needing to buy 6-7 first teamers. Which is absurd
Fine man, I bow to your semantics.
Cucurella was not an overly-sought out & overpriced talent that would be deemed unattainable for clubs.
I didn’t even try hard and I named 3 talents that any club could have attained, yet we have a “talent issue”
Sheesh
PL fans will cry about lack of talents yet nothing will phase Porto, Benfica, Dortmund, Ajax from finding the next Haaland, Luis Diaz, Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Dias, De Jong etc.
There is no lack of talents, there is a severe issue of short-sightedness in PL.
Thats true. BHA and wolves seemed to be outsmarting the market with the level of talent they bring in relative to the size of their club
That wasn’t semantics and your “correction” there is completely different to what originally claimed.
