Btw I gotta add too… Kanu was some player to watch. Two metres tall, but such a soft touch, he was born with a football at his feet. And so creative and smart.
Both his goals there were absolutely sublime, especially the first one: one touch - defender out, second touch goallie out… he took his time with both touches, knew what he was doing, always one step ahead. A wizard.

He was my favourite until Henry really started hitting his stride. What a player.
Imho you could even argue whether had even better control than Bergkamp. Yeah Bergkamp had the skills no one else could imagine, but Kanu always had the ball glued to his feet, and just so effortlessly and natural… He makes football looks so easy, and makes other great players look clumsy.
Good player, but let’s be realistic.
Relying on Kanu is probably why we were so far off the pace in 99/00. A scorer of wonderful goals but not a goalscorer

Haven’t followed the club at that time… but did we ever rely on him really? I though he was always just an option. A very handy one. An yeah, obviously he was never a prolific goalscorer, nowhere near that, but he was always ready to make things happen up front.

We were all over them in that game, too.
Anyone saying we were mentally shot after losing the Cup semi-final is just lazy or a United fan. We were well up for winning the league after that. Just flabbergasted as to how we didn’t beat Leeds.
I think November (always f’ckin November!) cost us. So many draws. A Wimbledon loss where they handballed it into the net. Took a nervy hime win v Everton to put us right

If we had 500M available in the next couple of transfer windows we wouldn’t be able to assemble a team of such quality. They feel like the fucking galacticos compared to our recent teams ffs.

I remember at the end of that game some c’nt tried to put a Barcelona shirt on Henry and Henry gave him an angry look and just continued with the interview professionally.
