I’m still failing to see how Levy is showing any form of ambition, is it because he’s picking hipster choice managers who haven’t won anything?
Spurs are a nothing club in mainland Europe, they’re not well known and don’t even come close to worldwide popularity as Arsenal are.
The last time they won the league everything was in black and white ffs .
No I don’t want to be a rich man’s plaything so we can compete with the rest I’ll leave that to PSG City and Chelsea, there’s a reason why we despise those clubs.
I understand the history of Arsenal and I certainly don’t want to go down that route, football fucked enough as it is.
I’m failing to see how you want a supporter who understands the club.
On the other hand you accept a sugar daddy with know understanding of the club.
Don’t think you can have it both ways like that.
And before anyone mentions Daniel Ek as a supporter of the club who cares, he is a cunt of the highest order fleecing little known musicians from their royalties, ripping people off for his own gain.
The Kroenke’s aren’t going anywhere, only an idiot oil sheikh would stump up the money to buy us out only to see little gain on his investment.
They’ve finished above us for five seasons and have been in a CL final.
If that trend continues, their popularity will get bigger and ours won’t.
While Wenger was here, I was saying similar things but was constantly told that we would be in the CL and spurs would never overtake us.
But the next season we weren’t and they did.
I know they aren’t going to be as big as us but seeing them catch us up and overtake us, while our owners continue making obvious mistakes while dragging us back, is too much.
I agree, although if it means getting the best manager and players to win the top trophies, I wouldn’t mind seeing what that’s like.
Let’s face it, if we don’t do it, there are plenty of clubs that will, including spurs.
It might be that if we can’t beat them, we might have to join them and get a sugar daddy owner.
It’s not like our owner is Mr Nice Guy.
He has a sports TV channel devoted to hunting and shooting animals.
I despise Kroenke almost as much as Levy.
I disagree - the smart move was to take the money - no way anyone is bidding that money for Kane in the summer. Even without a replacement at the time, they could have used that money to strengthen in Jan window, not like Kane was banging in the goals…
RvC was different, he refused to sign a new contract and Wenger couldn’t see him leave for free (or keep a player who didn’t want to be there), so took the £24M - at that time Wenger made all the decisions
I don’t like how the sales have been handled either, but we have been looking for a mass clear-out and in a firesale you seldom get any value in your sales.
I don’t believe Spuds are a better run club…Lewis is no fan, doesn’t attend games and his stake is pure investment. Levy may care but I cannot label him as ambitious, he too is a businessman. Spurs need a reset as much as we did, but they are once again one step behind - they had a few seasons above us, but I don’t believe they will manage that again this season and then their rebuild will have to start whilst straddled with stadium debt. Nothing to be envious about over there…
Spurs are essentially where we sat around spring 2018 - a couple seasons in a row out of the CL, desperately hoping to make it back and taking short term half measures to try to improve the squad around a couple aging superstar attackers instead of accepting reality, selling assets while they have value, and doing a real rebuild that will give them hope for a future beyond next year.
Kane and Son turn 29 and 30 in the summer. They’ve got maybe 1-2 years left at top level, Conte has one year left on his contract. There are huge problems on the horizon and all Levy cares about is getting back into the CL for a single year year and hopefully juicing his TV revenues and sponsorship money. Its a low ceiling strategy largely driven by finances, not silverware.
I don’t think its being ambitious to build a club strategy around trying to win that top four trophy one more time and mayyyyyybbbeeee even competing for a domestic cup before Kane and Son lose their legs and Conte fucks off to a real club.
Any good decision Levy has made to have the added caveat that Levy is always a step away from fucking something up. See sacking Mourinho (known for prioritizing trophies) before a cup final then putting Ryan Mason in charge then hiring Nuno. Or the dogshit squad that has been assembled Post-Pochettino.
Levy isn’t ambitious, he’s a nuisance. Any good decision he makes he makes 2 poor ones in return.
Arsenal fans - “Who gives a shit about net spend”
Also Arsenal fans - “I shall give a shit about net spend”
People make fun of this (myself included), but actually it is a good thing getting rid of hangers on and players who don’t want to be here. And hopefully it means a big transfer budget in the summer.
Plus, top 4 is in our hands. So maybe, just maybe, we’re on the up.
My point is, revenue will increase with these actions.
It is a good thing but if we are going to give them away for free, then we could have done so last season and got rid of them sooner.
For instance, Kolasinac need not stay 6 additional months here
Oh i agree. But we got Kola on a free, and as a result of that he was given higher wages than he would have been offered had we paid a fee for him. So he is hardly going to just agree to being sold to Stoke or someone.
In the long term, getting wages off the books and clearing out the shed is what will take us forward.
Kolasinac was difficult as soon as he came in and it became clear we signed a bum on high wages. Sitting out a good contract well above your paygrade is just the name of the game.
Didn’t need to permanently sign the likes of Cedric and Mari though. Could’ve shifted AMN, etc earlier when there was solid offers for him.
Wasn’t Kola good at first? He was in the Bundesliga team of the season
That’s what I meant by became clear sorry. Had a nice honeymoon phase (as did Mustafi).
Mustafi was just lucky. He wasn’t the reason for the unbeaten run. We got that unbeaten run despite him. He didn’t really make a clear difference.
I agree with Mari and Cedric though. You’ll probably be hard pressed to find an Arsenal fan who understands why we bought either of them.
At least it isn’t the reported 1.5 billion that Chelsea owe to Abramovich that the whole world is screaming to have his assets seized, and yet there are some who want us to be taken over by some oil oligarch so we can be more successful and ambitious.
We need CL pronto
