Andrey Arshavin

I always felt that he would have been best utilised as an SS. He was magic in the box with his dribbling, touch and close control.

Would have been a great foil to an out and out striker.

I’m very surprised by how wrongly Wenger utilised him. Every other club interested back then would have used him in the middle.

I wish that had 3-CB formation had been popular in England back then, those late 00’s team would have really benefited from using them. Not as a defensive clutch but as a way to get more out of our attackers.

Using a 3-4-1-2 or a 3-4-2-1 depending on the occasion.

Absolute bollocks by Arsenal not to win that game.

Liverpool really are the cuntiest club out there.

lol imagine taking you 4 years to buy a player that costs more than £15m

Calls for him playing the number 10 often forget the level and production of the man who actually played there. Cesc’s 2009/10 season puts to bed any notion anyone deserved that CAM role more.

Wonderful player though. One of the key stories of that era was never having our star players fit at the same time for long enough.

Which is amazing when you think of the talent we had in and out of the club through those years.

Unpopular opinion perhaps but Cesc was not enjoyable as an AM

There is something in that tbh. Not his strength as a midfielder for sure.

When we bought Perez for 18m it was our record fee for a striker and was in the same window as Xhaka and Mustafi,

It was this tight fisted approach to transfers that ended up costing our board way more, not just financially, but by not winning trophies as well.

We wasted so many transfer windows by going cheap and then, after the prices of players went up because of inflation, the board had to spend way more than would have done if they had invested properly before, just to catch up.

He’ll be more sorry than ever he left Arsenal now.

This guy is so popular man. Almost all chatter I’ve had with rival fans about Trossard involved Arshavin.

They all remember him well, especially his goals.
Didn’t realize he made enough of an impact to be remembered a decade later.

probably remembered for the 4 goals at Anfield, Arshavin has to be my favourite ever Arsenal transfer tbh and that’s a big compliment knocking Benayoun to second

Arshavin was pure class, shame Arsene didn’t manage to fit him into his ideas… And he came a bit late and started losing his pace after his first full season or two, that didn’t help either.

I wanted to mention that, Trossard does remind me a bit of Arshavin. Good two feet, quick, good balance… Also says himself his prefered position is behind the striker, in that ā€œpocketā€ā€¦ That was Shava’s best position too, although he never played there at Arsenal.
