Alexander Isak

Ornstein

There are doubts about whether the pursuit of Dusan Vlahovic will succeed — not in relation to an agreement with Fiorentina, rather with the forward and his representatives — but the North London team are actively exploring alternative options such as Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak.

The Sweden international’s contract is reported to have a release clause — a mechanism Arsenal utilised to bring in Thomas Partey and are keen to take advantage of elsewhere when viable — but sources indicate that, in the case of Isak, Arsenal would attempt to negotiate a lower price.

Re: Isak
Orney isn’t clarifying if this is about January or now. :disappointed:

It better be now

Are we actually gonna pay £75m(up front because it’s a RC too) for him?
Tbh, it’s not my money so I don’t give a shit.
I do wonder if Isak actually wants to move now.

yikes is £75m? :grimacing: that’s steep.

Also even tho it’s not our money, money is limited so we can think about where to best spend it to get the most out of it.

I don’t see Sociedad willing to negotiate lowering the price though.
I think they’ll tell us RC or nothing.
They’re in the mix for Top 4 as well and the last thing they want is losing their biggest asset right now.

Yeah agree, just… £75m is a lot, he isn’t that good, yet anyway. I’d take a punt for half of that because we need heads in the squad, but not that convinced about his consistency yet tbh. To some degree we (or, I) want players who can deliver right off the bat. He’s another 22yo with ups and downs, is that really what we want?

Tbf, if it wasn’t for Mikel I would advise that we stay away for now. He likes to drift to the left way too much and his finishing is pretty poor too.
I just hope Mikel knows the formula to get him to the next level. If there is someone who can it’s probably him.

Last time we spent 70m on someone… :pires2:

the best way to turn it into a positive is to add “he turned out to be a good finisher.”

Surprised this thread is so dead.

Isak seems pretty raw, an intriguing set of skills and bags of potential but not somebody prepared to step right into the PL and bang in a goal every other match while helping us in a top four fight.

It would be stupid to spend 90m euro (or whatever the release clause might be) on a guy worth half that who might not even be ready to help us immediately.

We’re gonna get rinsed on whoever we get really.
Club has been trying to get a striker for a while now.
Lautaro - fail
Tammy - fail
Vlahovic - fail

Add to that the situation with Auba, Laca and Eddie. The club must be desperate to do something now.

We might not get him now but are Sociedad really a hard bargain kind of club? I think they made a good sum from Griezmann but are they a club that thinks all their players are worth 70m, pay the price or fuck off? I don’t remember any other big sales out of them (I’ve no idea how they’re run these days though)

£70m+ for Isak is nuts

One way to get around this:

Yeah it’s not even a realistic figure lol.

30 goals in 88 games for Real Sociedad.

4 in 17 this year but that’s probably fitness interrupting it.

He’s not a single outstanding season that puts him in that price bracket. Prices of players are being driven down by covid and players running their contracts down more.

There’s no way any club is parting with £70m to sign Isak.

How did he and Ødegaard link up? Any stats on assists/key passes between them available?

That RC was tailor-made for Barca btw.
They’ve had their eye on the lad for some time now so Sociedad expected a big season from him and then to sell him in summer 2022.
Totally backfired though.
Still, they ain’t gonna enter negotiations now with less than a week to go before the windows closes.

They had a great understanding. I think they became good friends. He likes to make good runs in behind which Odegaard likes.

isnt this guy injured?
