Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

this is one of the strangest things to get annoyed about.

He wasn’t even a key player for us ffs lol and we got 40m!! he should be welcomed back with open arms :joy:

Youngster (and even veteran footballers are young) shows regrettable attitude once, shocker.

Welcome back Alex, if it turns out your fitness levels are up to Premier League standards I can think of much worse situations than you signing a short term contract to the end of the season to provide us with even more squad depth for the business end of the season.

Finally one of Wenger’s Emirates era signings wins the league with us.

I always think of this interview when Ox comes up; We’d just won the FA Cup and there he is talking about “I’ve always wanted to be Steven Gerrard”, he was practically begging for the move right here.

Or maybe he just wanted to fuck Alex Curran?

Ron?

Scorer of some great goals.
bit sad he never peaked for us

He should have been what Morgan Rodgers is for Aston Villa

That’s a great comparison .

Ox played mostly in a time where Morgan Rogers type midfielders weren’t sought after.

He was best on the right wing, he and ainsley were too busy trying to be CM’s without the talent for it.

Could’ve been a top RB-RW duo full of pace and power, if they’d put their minds to it.

Wasn’t part of his falling out with Wenger down to him not wanting to play RWB when Wenger switched to that 3atb formation towards the end?

You on about Ox or Ainsley?

AMN is the RB in my potential ‘duo’. But both of them had issues with not being played in central midfield at various points.

Ox had all the physical traits to be a great RW, pace and strength with OK on the ball ability. Just be a proper byline winger and spam balls into the box.

AMN was at best going to be a dirty destroyer DM type of midfielder but he wasn’t composed enough with his passing to play the DM role at Arsenal. Found joy at fullback but never seemed happy enough there.

Both ended up doing fuck all instead.

Ox needed more hands-on coaching. Wenger’s management style wasn’t really heavy on the details, and for a player like Chamberlain, who was naturally explosive but prone to mistakes, corrections matter. Instead of ironing out those issues, he often repeated the same errors because they weren’t addressed imo.

Ox.

Then yes, but I don’t blame him not wanting to be a RWB tbh. He could’ve filled in that role but it adds a lot of defensive effort (albeit RW in the current game also has) that wasn’t for him.

The positional thing isn’t the only reason neither of them made it but I don’t think those two players helped themselves at all.

To be fair, in his third season he started off doing exactly that and then got a lengthy injury. I was so gutted at that. Was waiting for him to blow up

Oxlade-Chamberlain would not have had a better career if he stayed at Arsenal at the time. He was basically 12th men for Liverpool and he would have been that here. Without the trophies.

Klopp did well with him though. Ox did manage to get into the starting XI after he settled and did look pretty strong for a while as that dynamic, ball carrying B2B in that midfield 3, but then the injuries started and he never managed to regain that form.

Injury plaqued at Arsenal too. Basically all started in his second season here or so and never managed to get a proper full season before the last one, where he acted as a RWB and was one of the better players at the time.

Injuries simply robbed him of a very very good PL career, simple as that. The fine tactical details and issues he had there ar just details, you can’t skip to that while he just never managed to stay fit for long enough.
