Give them Xhaka - keep AMN and go get a top class CM. Sorted.
They are a weird side.
We think we have guys who are on too much money and are useless, they’ve got like five of them!
I’m not convinced Mou was really a good fit either.
The Tammy signing seemed like a way to park him at a non-PL club before he moves back to England.
If they back him, Mou was certainly the right pick.
Excellent eye for talent. He’s responsible for building some of the best sides in football.
The new owners have used the either dreaded or progressive (depending on your opinion) language about wanting Roma to be a “project”, their stadium development is still stalled and that squad needs a huge overhaul.
They also hired in a young guy to be DoF and couldn’t scratch up enough money for Tammy and Xhaka.
Mourinho is such a busted flush in terms of his management style imo that I can’t see it ending well.
Didn’t they spend 100m in the summer? That’s a lot.
Of course they needed it and they still need further investment because as you said they certainly need an overhaul but Mourinho has a great track record of building up winning teams.
Option to buy!
Solid move for both parties tbh.
Good move for him. Surely a new midfielder comes in.
Good move for AMN. Clearly not going to get games here unfortunately. Hopefully another club fancies Xhaka (fat chance).
Does make me wonder will we pursue some business now in January or is this just in anticipation of summer
Hoping we can get similar to the £20m wolves we’re willing to spend on hin
Has to if AFCON happens. We’re gonna be left with Lokonga and Xhaka.
Not expecting Roma to take up the option given their past dealings with us and the xhaka saga but puts himself in the shop window if he does well there and should be looking at 20+ from a prem club in the summer (looking at you Everton)
I wouldnt mind keeping him around because he’s pretty useful, but also i dont realistically see him being a starter for us and he’s young and deserves to be playing. Hopefully he does a willock.
The Ballad of Maitland Niles continues, the sequel now being shot on location in Rome
I was blasting the kid the other day for not taking enough authority over his own career but I have to say this is a stellar move for his prospects. Much better than going to some mid table side like Wolves.
English players taking a chance in the Italian league are having a great time of it, Tomori, Smalling etc I actually really think it will benifit his game too, a slower pace with more onus on tactics is something that will help him grow.
The EPL to Serie A transition is something that just seems to be working for most players right now. I think he’ll have a good time out there
He’s actually a sort of player Mourinho will coach well and be given a specific role.
Probably define him once and for all on his best position.
Serie A is definitely the second best league in Europe so it’s an amazing move for him.
I’m happy to see English players taking more chances in their careers now. Tomori was way too good to see on the bench at Chelsea and he’s been a resounding success at Milan. Smalling did well at Roma in the early years because he was able to focus on defending a bit deeper and not playing on the front foot so much which never suited him.
Obviously the jury is out on Abraham but the foreign experience will help these guys.
I don’t think he’ll be a huge hit at Roma because they have more talented players but his versatility will help them a lot and half’s a season of solid performances means we can easily bank £20m for him agajn
Can’t help but feel we are missing out on someone like Saka & ESR, if not at first team level but atleast squad level.
Horribly mismanaged, considering the amount of gametime wasted on Xhaka & Elneny in last 2 seasons.
We didn’t have much to show for but we did get Saka & ESR. We could have done the same in midfield.
