Ainsley Maitland-Niles

AMN is a lot closer to a Joe Willock or Eddie Nketiah level talent than he is to Saka or ESR.

I have nothing but good feelings toward him, but I don’t think he has the technical quality or discipline to be anything more than a 4th/5th choice backup CM for Arsenal. He could do well with Mourinho though, kind of like a cut rate Ramires.

Blocking his move to Wolves only to not use him was such a mistake.

Maybe something went down behind the scenes, maybe Arteta made him promises about playing in midfield, maybe he made Arteta promises about work rate, who knows?

But it’s hopefully a mistake Arteta and the club learned from. Could have banked 30m from Wolves in July 2020. Now we’ll get maybe a third of that?

I’m really struggling to make sense of this post.

Are you saying that AMN is the squad depth equivalent to what ESR/Saka are to the first team.

So essentially older and too shit to actually displace Elneny and their only similarities are that they are all Hale End youths?

I don’t think 30m was ever offered. The rumors were 20m and then when we turned it down it came out that the offer was actually a bit less than 20m.

Still should have taken the money and ran though.

Ah my bad. I could have sworn it was 30m. Still fumbled the bag on it though.

Bit late seeing this but completely agree, the whole notion of him playing CM baffles me. He will have the odd decent game there against inferior teams but his frame is not of a CM for a start and then you add in his sloppiness on the ball.

Shame we turned down the 20m Wolves were throwing at us but think we’re best letting him go to Roma now since we never use the lad anyway. End the nightmare for everyone.

The guy should’ve just stuck to playing full back. Now I don’t know what was said or agreed behind the scenes, so I won’t criticise him too much, but I do think his desire for playing in midfield has gotten in the way of his career as much as Mikel has.

Time for him to go but I think he’ll be seeing a lot of the wing back/full back role under Mourinho as well if he goes there.

He could’ve really nailed that RB spot when Bellerin was playing terribly for almost 2 years but he never seemed to have the desire to make it his own. Did well in the FA cup run and I thank him very much for that.

Meanwhile he bossed the midfield when he was 20 years old at Old Trafford.
Guess who was Man Utd’s coach at the time…

Partey and Elneny also bossed the midfield at Old Trafford last season but neither of them are setting the world on fire either

Very mismanaged indeed. Feel for AMN a bit. Elneny getting minutes over him is pretty shocking from Arteta. Should have let him go in 2020 if we had no intention of using him.

Without getting into any agendas, the way I see it - we took the worst outcome of having AMN in our squad.

We don’t know his ceiling or whether he is a long term solution to anything. He would get a red card but then outperform Bellerin at fullback and show genuine calm & technique in midfield to dink a ball during a sequence leading to a goal.

We don’t know how AMN would have turned out to be if he was given gametime.

I am certainly sure that he is PL quality just like Willock, Iwobi & Nketiah are. If we gave him game time, he wouldn’t have been any worse than Xhaka or Elneny, even Partey for that matter.

We had & have a massive hole in midfield and Arteta took the safe yet ineffective option.
If he was compelled to use AMN just like he was with Saka & ESR, AMN would have been asset for us -either to plug a gap or to sell for a profit.

We may end up with neither.

He has played 5 or 6 games in midfield. He has impressed in all but his first outing.

Don’t get excited. Mou will bury him in the reserves if he’s one appearance shy of triggering the clause just to poke Arsenal in the eye.

Tbf that’s standard Italian practice in these situations.

In this scenario you have to hope Mourinho likes him, he definitely wanna keep him if that’s the case.

Why are Italian clubs such bums

Because all other European leagues have never been able to monetise their product the way the PL has. And none of the Italian teams outside of a couple own their stadiums and therefore miss out of a lot of revenue form match going fans.

I thought it was because they spend all their spare cash on match fixing

They can do that but if Ainsley does well(especially as an Englishman in a foreign league) he’ll have other clubs after him.
