I’ve seen every Raw and Nitro from 1997, to me it’s the very best year in the history of the business. The attitude era with intensity before it became a little corny by 99/00 where it was controversy for controversy sake.
10 years ago man
Need the link to the promo lol
Ten years on and it’s really still quite mind blowing to see New Japan and Ring of Honour mentioned by name on a WWE broadcast, among other things. He shattered the mould that night. It’s just a shame it didn’t stay shattered.
.
Greatest heel turn in history.
The moment that Bobby Heenan almost ruined
“Whose side is he on?!”
Yeah it annoys me so much whenever I rewatch it. I think at one point, WWE were editing out Heenans call.
Wasn’t Heenan always speculating that Hogan wasn’t really the good guy he was made out to be though
Absolutely. My favourite call of that whole sequence is Heenan and Schiavone dropping the bravado to say “I never thought I’d see people throwing debris at Hulk Hogan” before adding “I knew it should have been done a long time ago” like it really got across what a rat bastard moment that was for Hogan to think that arguably the Brain had been right all along
Random thought- has anyone ever actually seen WM6 in its entirety? We’ve seen the main event a number of times, but I wonder what the whole show is like…
I did a few years back, can’t remember much of it. Was that rick rude vs Jake the snake?
Nope. Never seen it but seen the main event countless times. One of those matches you could watch again and again
Ooh it could be. Wasn’t the whole stimulus for that match that Rick Rude was (kayfabe) making lewd gestures towards Jake the Snake’s missus?
On an aside, Rick Rude was meant to be a nutter outside the ring. Took Hellwig out with one punch behind the scenes, apparently
Actually now you mention it DH,
What are the best ever “not great wrestling” matches ever? Ones that are incredible for the occasion and the execution of it all rather than the actual wrestling ability
Hogan-Rock I
Warrior-Hogan
The two standouts for me
Yeah him Haku and Andre were all nut jobs. Especially Haku. Man yanked someone’s teeth out with his index and middle finger
Only thing that ruined it was Hogan trying to take The Warrior’s moment away from him (holding onto the belt, delaying passing it over, etc. It should have been Warrior’s time alone in the ring)
I’d say the most recent Goldberg return, too. Goldberg v Lesnar 2.
Hype was incredible.
Hogan vs Andre just for the hype alone. That iconic picture and slam heard around the world
