Ok so let me say I can’t stand the PGMOL or Oliver. However, having watched the game back this morning, there is a ‘scraping’ action of the studs on the Wolves player. I can see why MLS was sent off.
I think the real-time speed replay shows it best. The Wolves player’s ankle/foot judders quite violently and I guess it does go down as endangering an opponent.
Yup this play was maybe 60/40 (yellow/normal foul)… the fact that Oliver went for red so fast also makes it terribly dodgy. That is a time to think, maybe ask for some help from assistant on audio, the immediate reaction was for something where it was a flying tackle with studs up and right into player leg.
This whole “It was high” thing is also incredibly stupid… it is almost alway the MOST dangerous when it is low around ankle with foot fully planted. A kick to someone on upper leg that is clumsy (not even situation here), even if hard, is almost never going to cause real damage of any duration.
Dangerous and reckless are subjective and also at least imply a bit of intent (or at least lack of any care for safety of opponent), which is hard to discern. There was absolutely no malicious intent here other than “let me flick out and stop the counter”… that is part of what makes it so hard to take the pathetic excuses being made for Oliver and PGMOL.
