Always thought the triple loan was going to be a major problem. Happy that we’re just reaping its rewards. Great management by Arteta. I have no doubt that he’s the biggest reason why Saliba is signing for a further 4 years

It would have set us so far back to lose him and have to try and replace him at centre half in this summer. It’s huge he’s staying.

I’ve had a blinding day in the garden with my closest friends then come in to find out Saliba is staying. This is just immense news. Odegaard to go then we’re set for the next 5 years.

Huge boost and just shows how far the club have come under Edu and Arteta. It wasn’t long ago at the end of Wenger’s reign that this saga would have gone on for the whole summer resulting in endless speculation and anxiety. It sends a strong message to players we are looking to buy that we can keep our best players and are looking to strengthen further in the summer. Excellent work all round. Be good to see formal announcement soon.

Let’s not underplay this. Saliba and Gvardiol are the two hottest (pause) young, centre backs in world football and we’ve got one tied down.
This is a, huge statement of how far that the club has come in a few years.

It’s a shame Gvardiol looks set for City. I had him down as an upgrade on Gabriel next summer.

Partly sad but glad about it personally.
Have no issue adding yet another good centre back in an already fantastic pool of centre backs.
Very much rather that than them revamping their midfield and or adding another star wide player in the mix.
Who knows. Maybe they won’t sign him and we could be in the mix next summer for him.
Great news, always thought he’d sign da ting.
Now that it’s done, I hope his back injury is not something that’ll bother him going forward.

These agents securing 4 year deals for their players are doing a serious job. In 2 years time it’s right back to negotiations lol

No. Fabrizio and Ornstein only said 4 years.
Great work from the agents and maybe also a bit reflective of where Arsenal are as a club. Big time players are enthusiastic about our project, but they still want us to prove we’ve taken the next step over the next couple years and aren’t going to commit for five years of their prime until we’ve done that. I think a club like City or Real Madrid still get a 5+1 or 6 year deal from Saliba or Saka.

There’s an argument about Arsenal not minding these 4 year contracts either.
We’ve been burned before by handing big contracts to players and then seeing them declining massively and eventually having to pay them off to leave.
All these contracts we’re handing out at the moment is quite an investment. The club is also protecting themselves here as players can’t just sit on a fat contract anymore. We may have to re-sign them in a few years but they also have to to work to earn a new deal on the same or better wages.
