William Saliba (2)

Why not?

People forget we played him any Tomiyasu at home to City and got murdered nearly as bad as we did away

Yep, he was on a bad form himself from around November last year. He somewhat recovered in his last few matches before his injury but I reckon he would’ve folded like others did.

Also the fuck has happened to Tomiyasu he was such a crowd favourite but he genuinely looked all over the place before he collapsed from injuries. That pass back to KDB is still a disappointing and defining moment in the season for me personally. Though I still love the guy but he needs a pretty sturdy campaign next season if he wants to stick around

Staying fit would be a start. Not handing our rivals goals would be even better.

He’s simply not the same guy after that first injury somewhere in the middle of his first season. Never managed to recover.

Everybody thought we got a new Sagna at that time and solved that position with him long term.

Bad decisions, bad reactions, nowhere near as strong in one on one defending as when he started, also his attacking contribution has been reduced massively. He’s barely an injury prone Jenkinson nowadays.

I haven’t exactly given up on him personally. He was good in the first half of the season pre-WC.

I thought he looked excellent against Sporting away which was one of his last performances.

I think what he’s suffered the most from this season is rustiness, which actually is what probably led to his last injury.

Winning the league every year and living in Paris while being a multimillionaire at 21 sounds pretty good to me.

Paris is a dump lol

Confirmed @SRCJJ is Tyler the Creator

Paris is probably a lot of fun if you’re insanely wealthy. I did the hostel hopping thing like all good liberal coastal elites when I graduated high school and found Paris kind of boring. Loved Marseille though. It felt more lived in.

I don’t think PSG is a big worry. Skriniar signed a pre-contract with them already (some rumors about the deal getting nixed due to concerns with his back but that doesn’t seem to have real legs) and Marquinhos is only 29.

Real Madrid seems like a legit worry. I can very much imagine them getting in the agent’s ear about a free transfer next summer.

If I’m Saliba, though, I would be terrified about running down my deal and taking that risk given the back issue. If he misses a big part of next year with what turns out to be a recurring back problem, nobody is giving him a five year deal on big money.

He is so young that if he walks on a bosman he’s got the deal and potentially two more big contracts in his future. He’ll back himself and his agent will likely be telling him the same. If I were representing him I’d tell him to wait it out. If he really wants to stay at Arsenal, he can sign after next season ends as a free agent after seeing what other offers are out there.

Saliba was pretty suspect during the weeks before his injury at Sporting tbh. But I hope he stays. If he does leave, then it should be nothing less than £100m. That’s what his value should be. He’s the best CB in the league by a mile.

Can you imagine his valuation if he was a Brighton player?

Barely holding off the challenge of the mighty RC Lens atm with 3 games to go and the multi millionaire thing he can do in a much nicer city in London.

Mans gonna sign

Now please, stop blowing smoke up his arse and point the finger at the likes of Holding.

That analysis is so weak lol, the relative position on those stats means less than carra makes out.

Bangs on about us going first to 10th on goals conceded yet it’s not that big of a drop in actual goals conceded. Averages at 0.8 per game to just over 1 per game pre and post WC with Saliba.

Contrast that with almost 2 per game without Saliba (1.9) then it’s quite clear there was a huge fucking drop off after he got injured :face_with_raised_eyebrow::face_with_raised_eyebrow: I dont even need to get started on the clean sheets.

Now was he as good post wc as before? No. Were we already talking about the defence being a bit leaky? Yes. Is the injury the only factor? No.

Is it a fucking huge one? …… of course it is

With Saliba in 27 games we conceded 24 goals bearing in mind we had played the top teams multiple times including United and Spurs twice and then without him we conceded 17 goals in 9 games against teams like West Ham, Southampton etc.

With Saliba do we condede so many against the dross teams we dropped the ball playing down the stretch? Let’s keep it real

14 goals conceded in 13 games doesn’t seem terrible. 17 goals in 9 games, well that’s relegation candidate territory.

10th vs 12th conceded isn’t a huge drop comparatively speaking but it’s actually a fairly significant drop.

As Darks says, it’s also about who we’re conceding to. Villa, United, Man City, and Brighton were amongst the teams that we conceded multiple goals to. Now it’s happening against West Ham and Southampton.

Having had a look at the stats just now, the 10th position feels a bit erroneous.

Technically could be read as 9th as we have played more games the Southampton. Goals conceded is the last column on the right of the screen

Also depends where you take the snapshot from. If you include games played on the 17th of March, we’ve conceded the 8th least. Only 3 more goals than City.
