What are you watching?

I’ve been watching Clarkson’s documentaries. His docs on the Victoria Cross, The Greatest Raid of All and his one about Greatest Britons - his selection being Isambard Kingdom Brunel. I’ve enjoyed Clarkson since I was a kid (RIP TG/TGT) but I feel it’s a shame that he never really got the chance to explore this more serious, interested side of him as well.

Ello mate. Long time no see.

Heya, yeah I apparently do this now. Disappear for a while then get the idea to take a look again. xD

I recently went through Derry Girls. I enjoyed most of it, especially Orla who is great and coincidentally kicks off my favourite part of the entire show - the juxtaposition of youthful innocence with adult grief is superbly done here:

And the last ever scene is my 2nd favourite part. Both scenes heavily feature the glorious “keening” of the late, great Dolores O’Riordan.

Honestly that’s such a good show. Just that right pitch of weird.

Seeing your man who plays James there actually reminds me another show he was in recently finished. Big Boys. Its definitely worth a watch. Bit like Derry Girls it does get emotional in parts.

Adolescence was just “good”. Dont think it was really much better than a lot of other British dramas. It’s well acted and captivating enough, but not entirely sure why it’s become such a phenomenon. I actually had some degree of sympathy (not quite the right word, but too early for my brain to articulate it better) for Kemi Badenoch having to explain to two BBC hosts that she didn’t need to watch a Netflix programme to understand the real world issues lol.

I think it’s one of the ones whilst it “highlights” a serious issue, it’s one in terms of TV where people just bandwagon it as being that good to be part of the crowd.

Love Stephen Graham and thought it was okay but couldn’t understand why everyone was waxing so lyrical about it, he’s done much better stuff than that.

Watching Black mirror season 7 since the last few days. 4 episodes down, 2 to go. Liked the first episode and the other one with the throng thing. Those two felt like classic black mirror materials.

Incredible show. Better than BB in my eyes.

On the 8th episode of the final season of Succession. These idiot Roy children are so gonna fuck each other out of the whole empire :joy:

One of the best things I’ve watched in years. The theme tune goes so hard as well.

I think I’m going to miss Tom and Greg’s unique relationship even more than the theme tune though

Succession is probably in my top 2 for tv shows

The last season is absolute cinema. The weekly wait for a new episodes was absolute torture :joy:

I’m really pleased you’re enjoying it. I think this is the best TV series I’ve watched. 10/10 and perfect mix of humour and drama with great characters. I loved the Tom and Greg dynamic too. The ending, and I’m not spoiling anything here, is perfect IMO. As someone who loves classical scores, the score by Nicholas Britell is nothing short of exceptional.

Just caught up with Mobland. That last episode has been burnt onto my retinas.

Is White Lotus seties 1 meant to be prestige television?! Watched three episodes of the six and it is very mid.

The writing is just average, the dialogue is not particularly snappy, nor funny. There are a fair few contrivances for the sake of plot, none of the characters are particularly interesting, and so far there are no stand out performances by any of the actors playing them.

It felt like the first two episodes were basically just set-up, despite that representing a third of the series’ length. I don’t find the plot to be compelling, and any sense of intrigue hinges solely on the fairly cheap tactic of telling us that a character dies right at the beginning of the first episode to try and hook the audience.

It’s obviously a satire and provides social commentary on these sorts of wealthy people, but I don’t find that satire to be particularly biting, nor do I think the commentary says anything particularly insightful or interesting.

I hardly need to add this, but I’ve been really disappointed by it.

I’ve pretty much given up hope of this first series changing my mind, but can anyone let me know if series 2 and 3 are of a similar quality to 1, or whether either are significantly better?

The one thing I will say could be a mitigating factor is that I have literally just finished Succession in the past few days, which has some of the best writing ever seen on television, so perhaps anything that follows is going to judged harshly (though I didn’t go into White Lotus expecting it to be the same calibre)

The second series was good and the third started slowly but got really good as it went along but because it’s quite different than a lot of the other big TV dramas, it takes a while to get into.

There are a few of the more popular series that take a while to get into and get to know the characters but when you do, it makes more sense, like with The Wire and Ozark, which were both slow to start before they got really good.

Saying that, I watched Adolescence and just didn’t get the hype with it but just started watching Succession which is great.

I’ve watched one and two and I’m more or less with you.

Think I’ve said it before but there really isn’t any likable characters in it. Some think that’s the point but I didn’t really need this show to convince me rich arseholes aren’t very likable.

Trust me when I say this is a 10/10 series. If you don’t trust me, I’m sure @Calum will back me up on this - he was the one who peaked my interest originally. You have to watch the series all the way until the end. I have found some people don’t get the humour but based on other things that you have said you have watched on here I really think you should keep going until the end. The second series is even better. The third divides opinion, but in my view it was as good, darker tone, but personally I like that.
