Don’t venture too far. You’ll get a nosebleed anywhere north of Watford!

I’m in the Netherlands. Visiting with my wife’s side of the family in Groningen and Friesland. My son has been super excited as he couldn’t wait to see his cousins. He was 2.5 last visit in Dec ā€˜19 just before the pandemic. It’s good to be back. Lots of good food, wine and conversation on arrival!

Dreading the return journey though. We are flying back in the 29th. Both border force and baggage handlers will be striking. Had an hour flight to our delay in, but thankfully beat the travel rush. No wait at immigration in this side, so through the airport and in our rental car with no waiting. They are predicting it to be super busy from today.

Hope those traveling don’t have any issues getting to and from. Sounds like traveling within the UK will be a nightmare.

Holiday season has already been so busy with hosting thanksgiving, birthdays and a wedding thrown in that we’ve just decided we’re chilling at home.

Well, not sure what tomorrow will look like now. It’s been 3 years since our last visit and now my FIL and his BIL have Covid. As both have been with the family we are staying with, including cooking dinner for us on arrival, we are now wondering if it’s wise to attend Christmas dinner even if we are all currently negative (we haven’t tested). So we could all end up just doing our own thing now. My son may not to get time with his young cousins now either. At least we are staying with some of the family and 2 dogs, so not alone in a hotel. But it sucks.

Ahh that sucks I’m really sorry to hear that. What a nightmare.

That said (I hate to be callous) but does it matter? If they hadn’t tested and they just thought it was a cold would you still not go?

I feel like every other person I know right now has some kind of cold or flu and I’d wager a lot of them are actually covid because they just don’t want to test and have it confirmed.

I feel the same for the most part. My FIL is the oldest at 74 and no symptoms. If we had vulnerable people in the family, the I could understand the caution. And I basically said no one would know if Jan hadn’t had a fever and tested. Then my in-laws decided to test. My MIL is just over Covid before coming to us and is neg. We haven’t tested and not sure anyone plans to. We just go on.

No one tests daily anymore and I’d say a good portion of the population are walking around positive without knowing. It seems there is a kind of flu going around that is knocking people on their arses more than covid. Many say they feel worse than when they had covid and continue to test negative.

But my FIL is the one driving so the rental car is now out of action. I’m terrified of driving around the cities and towns because of all the cyclists. Need to come over in the summer when there is plenty of daylight and drive to get comfortable with that.

Merry Xmas all. And to those that are not celebrating, enjoy the time off :v:

My first unread post in this thread was from November 1st.

I’m willing to concede that Christmas might have started now.

Merry Christmas everyone

When I think of Arsenal during the festive period I often think of Eduardo’s brace vs Everton.

Says a lot about my state of mind when ā€œwatching the Forest matchā€ is what I find to be the most exciting aspect of your plans.
