Viktor Gyökeres

Called him an oversized Luis Suarez first mate. :racing_car:

We’ll see what happens but I’ll be very glad if we get this and Zubimendi over the line early.

We badly need a summer in which we can have a real training period with our full squad to reset physically and also bed in the new players. If we buy Gyokeres there will be an adjustment from him to how we play and from the team to how he plays. There’s too much urgency about next season for him to bed in during the fall and only hit the ground running in January. We need him to come into the team like Jesus did.

Amorim is a fraud.
Ridiculous that a manager of this era wouldn’t know the difference in quality of PL clubs compared to lesser clubs of Portugal, French & German leagues.

It’s unbearable to watch matches beyond the top 2-3 clubs in those leagues at times.

It’s a shit league and Gyokeres numbers (not including penalties) just aren’t impressive in such a shit league.

Huge question marks over him but if he comes here and kills it then so be it I’ll be extremely happy.

But not far off 27 and stuck playing in that shit league smashing in penalties.

His open play numbers are perfectly fine

What kind of numbers should he get getting?

Is he supposed to be hitting like Messi and Ronaldo?

It’s weird to see you take a positive line on something.

High proportion of penalty goals. Plus he can’t score headers! Sesko can and has an amazing jump on him!

He’s playing in a dog shit league with very low quality across the board. 26 non penalty goals in that awful league for a man on the verge of turning 27 isn’t exactly huge.

His numbers are decent but I’m not excited about this transfer at all. He’s genuinely got flop written all over him.

Sure, because he’s basically Lacazette right

He isn’t just a goal scorer which has been stated many a time

Just can’t wait to sign him so he can destroy crappy takes like this

Who else should we get?

I haven’t compared his actual playing style to Lacazette in any way, shape or form. I’ve said the transfer itself reminds me of Lacazette in that he’s at a similar age, a lot of penalty goals and seemingly ignored by big clubs.. that’s the parallels I’m drawing. If you can’t understand that point then that’s on you. It doesn’t make it a crappy take.

Weren’t you shining a light on Solanke last season and he’s sitting on single digit goal numbers so forgive me if I’m not convinced by your talent ID.

That’s perfectly fine because you clearly don’t watch him much at all especially if all you’re talking about is goals

As for my talent ID that’s the game, I don’t need anything from you whatsoever

I’d still take him personally, purely because he is indeed the best thing the market has to offer as far as strikers are concerned.
However, we should acknowledge the red flags he comes with.

Sure, Gyokeres is playing in a shite league.

But I’m pretty convinced he’s miles ahead of everyone else in our squad and there really isn’t that many others capable of getting almost 70+ G/As in all comps (no matter the league) like he has.

Just hope it works out for him here if he does come here.

You can question many other things but I think that criticism is totally off the target.

26 non penalty goals are very good, if not impressive, numbers in any league, at any age.

Also the portuguese league is surely among the top 7-8 (if not 6) leagues in Europe. Just because it’s obviously nowhere near a superleague like the PL doesn’t make it some obscure fishermen league.

It also REGULARLY produces world class, elite, players, among the flops, as any league.
Btw this reminds me of a time when a lot of the Arsenal fan base had a phobia about the french league just because we signed a few flops, despite it being one of the best leagues in the world that produces top talent regularly.

The biggest question for me remains is whether is his skillset actually good enough to stay above the water in the PL, consistently. Is his technical quality, his skill and decison making, really good (and fast) enough to produce when he wont have so much time on the ball, where he’ll face higher quality defenders every week, etc.

He has shown many momets to be positive about him, but also some average games. Can’t answer these really withouth watching him properly for a number of games, but basing your scepticism on his numers and the quality of the league alone is off. By that you wouldn’t buy any player outside of the top 3 leagues unless they have 70 non penalty league goals or something :gabriel:

I think you have to look at every player individually, these things don’t tell much.

Again, I haven’t watched him enough to be sure about him, I definitely hope and expect our scouts did and aren’t basing their decision on the hype @Darkseid and me are creating… :wright:
Personally, from what I’ve seen from the highlights, combined with his fifa stats (:fire: ) is giving me enough reason for the optimism.
Plus, all the commets from the fans in portugal, including Benfica and Porto fans, who all agree he’s a monster and that he’s a better player than Darwin (for comparison).

As I said the other day, I expect and hope for him to turn out something of a Diego Costa level and style striker. He wont be the new Henry, Van Persie, or Haaland. Also the Suarez comparisons aren’t doing him a favour, he’s nowhere near that. Costa would be more than enough.

The striker market is dead.

Gyokeres is playing in a low quality league and padding his numbers with penalties.

Sesko is overpriced and has a poor scoring record.

Just repeat one of these while getting steadily more unpleasant to those who hold the other view and you’ve got 90% of OA’s posts until we sign one of these Hojlunds.
