Something I found interesting in the report from Sami is that apparently he would cost the cheapest compared to Isak(obviously) and Sesko.
If he is really that cost efficient then surely you take a punt on him. I’m still not all that convinced myself but I haven’t seen enough of him to completely disregard him.
Whatever the case about him scoring mainly in transition or a lot of penalties, his numbers are insane.
Clearly the dude is obsessed with scoring and that’s something we could use. Even if there is a transitional period, if he really is hungry for it, he’ll find plenty of goals here.
Common sense choice
Berta being a grown up in the room
Lezgooooooo
I do think it’s important that Berta makes the decisions on transfers and Arteta isn’t given autonomy to decide on who we bring in. The head coach shouldn’t get that kind of freedom.
If Berta wants us to sign @Darkseid’s man then that’s the direction we should be going in.
Between Gyokeres and Sesko, Gyokeres is definitely the better player. Not much doubt imo. The real question is: can he do it in the English league?
He’s done it already
Has he? News to me
Isn’t the Championship an English League?
I suppose, I just assume Echoes meant in the Premier League
Yeah, that’s what I meant. Probably should’ve phrased it as English top flight.
He’ll be a top three striker in this league easily
Book it, I think he’ll put the Isak longing in the dust
Hope you’re right if we do get him, cause I really feel we can win something next season if we have a top striker and a LW who’s better than Martinelli.
His time in the Championship is slept upon but I rate that quite a bit myself. Plenty of great performers in the Championship went on to perform in the PL.
Personally, my doubt isn’t whether he can do it in the PL, the fact he did in the Championship tells me he can do it for certain teams, my doubt is if he can do it here while playing against low-blocks 9 times out of 10.
He’s got the tools to do so though. Gotta become more present in the penalty box when it’s packed and in the air but he’s a big guy, Isak was shit at it but he’s developed it.
What could be decisive for him are his shots. His tendency to have a simply have a crack at it from any given angle, right foot or left foot, in and around the box will be most welcome.
That chance he created for himself against us was purely down to him just taking the half chance at a tough angle and he rocked the woodwork.
Edit: For reference, here’s the chance I’m talking about.
Go to 5:29
He had no business getting in the box, let alone threatening Raya, but he did. That’s a goalscorer right there.
I’d argue a lot of the low blocks we face actually come as a result of Odegaard slowing everything down to walking pace and rotating the ball on almost every attack.
Which is mostly by design
I’m not sure it is accurate to say Gyokeres is the common sense choice…he’s maybe the safest choice being the cheapest, as @GC-Maniac pointed out above (which goes in favour of the transfer), and he is more experienced of the options available given his age. Reports suggested that Atletico Madrid were interested in him which suggests Berta was scouting him before joining us.
Berta needs to play a leading role in transfer decisions, but disagree with @SRCJJ (if this is what you were suggesting) that Arteta shouldn’t be involved or kept to the sidelines. It’s important that both work together- that’s what has helped us over the last few seasons with the players we have brought into the club.
Arteta is a terrible judge of attacking talent he hasn’t been able to fill that striker role despite being given the keys to the bank vault.
Disagree. We tried and failed to sign attacking targets last summer. Arteta made his position very clear in January too. This will be addressed in the summer.
