Viktor Gyökeres (and Pizza)

Because the club get everything right, right?

Your belief that he’s a better option is based on very little next to nothing at all, he is a project striker who isn’t even dominating his own league which has seen so many so so strikers post up very good numbers

Right now he’s tracking behind last season’s league tally playing over 600 more minutes but you bring up headers

No striker option is perfect but I’d rather go for the player that is ready right now rather than one clearly needs more seasoning and who I seriously question whether he’d beat out Havertz for the starting spot in his first season.

As I’ve said before, Gyokeres could be amazing in the PL for Arsenal. I will hold my hands up if that’s the case and if we sign him, I’ll be fully behind him. However, there are still strong doubts as to whether he can make the transition:

  • The number of pens he has scored still makes up a large proportion of the total number of goals he has scored overall and this remains a concern;
  • The number of goals he has scored in Portugal is impressive, but it is the Portuguese League, so some allowance needs to be made for this; and
  • The lack of headed goals (and I don’t care what you say), shows there are limitations to the players ability.

If they were scoring similar numbers even of open play goals I’d be all for the Sesko train, given the age and I like us signing players that will develop here.

But let’s be serious Gyokeres is a killer at least in the Portuguese league and going for supposedly a pretty fair fee in today’s market. We need ready made, we are not missing kids rn (otherwise why sign merino last year?).

Bring both if we’re that hot on Sesko and sell Jesus in Jan.

He’s scored 26 open play league goals this season setting aside from penalties and may be on 30 by seasons end, is he supposed to be Ronaldo or Messi? Be realistic

The fact you’re still banging on about headed goals is hilarious, I’ve already disproven that utter crap and yet you’re still talking about it, sort yourself out.

At least Gyokeres is doing what he should be as someone who is clearly better than that league he’s DOMINAITING it, same can’t be said of Sesko.

The Bundesliga catches a lot of flack on here and he’s posting up pedestrian numbers, you don’t acknowledge that though or the fact he’s having a poorer season than last.

I have nothing against Sesko but I simply don’t see him as a special prospect, he’s just a good young striker in my eyes who doesn’t even lead the line on his own right now. He’s not ready IMO for what we need and for where we want to be right now.

Nunez scored 34 goals for Benfica…need I say more?

Sesko is 5 years younger. You can’t fairly compare the two atm.

Let’s not forget he’s also lost the manager who really started to get the best out of him. Recovered after a brief dip and started banging them in again.

Either the league is just piss for him and he’ll be average here or he will bang 20-30 goals. Every striker option has the same risk so I’m taking the one with the numbers.

This is exactly the same for Sesko lol

And setting aside goals he brings more to the table than someone like Sesko

Sesko in the facilitaiton sense is barren right now

Like I said not convinced he beats out Havertz for the starting spot intially which says it all

This season in their respective leagues:

Sesko MPG 188
Nunez MPG 201

Good comparison you brought up, they’re about the same level.

Yes I agree. You’re absolutely right. The difference is though that some people are saying that Gyokeres is the obvious and best choice for Arsenal because of the number of goals he has scored. There is no guarantee that Gyokeres will be able to replicate his goal scoring form in the PL. Sesko has youth on his side.

So does martinelli, shall we not sign a LW?

Sorry but how have you disproven this? The goal stats seemed pretty clear cut to me?

I’ts not just goals, it’s all round game

You’re talking about youth like our window to win isn’t right now

Sesko may be ready in 2 to 3 seasons if ever, we don’t have that kind of time

That would be the correct answer

While you’re all debating, it occurred to me I never bothered checking Sesko’s goal record, until now.

You are making a massive incorrect assumption that I think the key to our success next summer is a striker…yes we need to buy a striker, but I don’t think the striker signing needs or should be the marquee signing. I think a higher profile winger or No.10 is a higher priority. The reason for this is simple. There isn’t a plethora of quality striker options out there.

Worse record than last season too

Can’t say for certain that he’s going to crack 15 league goals man

He’s not even dominating that league, spooky

10th in the goal scoring chart, mans midtable :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Btw have you watched the goal highlights that @Flexo posted that you think are so impressive? The first, third and fourth goals are just awful from a defensive perspective. No way he 3 goals like that in the same match in the PL.

I’ve seen them yeah but I’ve also seen him score quality goals too

At least he’s bagging the easy ones, not all strikers can say the same

On some days you take what the defence is giving you

I raised the same point, about the poor defending from the opposition.

But we see that tripe every week here in the EPL too. Look at the goals Southampton and Ipswich concede, it’s like they’re asking to be peppered.
