Gonna be “it’s only against Leeds. He won’t score against the big teams”.

score against a big team ‘they were crap today’

ideally would like him to open his account with more than one at Anfield.

Let Saka pad his stats vs Leeds.

The hit was great. The pass afterwards was shit. If he just makes a simple pass to Saka its a great opportunity to either shoot or cut back to one of the trailing runners.

I’m not making too much of one game but the reality is that we saw this kind of misplaced pass a lot in his Sporting every touch videos. He’s never going to be a top technician but he really does need to do the basics consistently.

we might need Doman to come on :sol:

No one wins a shoulder to shoulder against Gyok, De Ligt didn’t get the memo.

Its weird in that he seems insanely strong in these shoulder to shoulders situations but kind of weak when back to goal and a man behind him.

Fuck all the rival fans, getting a semi because he didn’t set the world alight. 1 man against 2 and a half centre backs and he made one eat turf.

The trick is not to pay any attention to fans

I block any fan tv that appears in my YT algorithm.

Don’t know about that Doman guy. But if we get past Sunderland without a Dowman meltdown I’ll consider that a massive success

Not too bothered by his performance today. Didn’t get much service. Tactics overall didn’t help either.

Wouldn’t say weak. Maybe not as dominant as you would expect, but he’s decent at least.

with odegaard being left footed every through ball felt like it was taking him wide and away from goal, need a right footer on the left so they curl towards goal

exactly the angle did not favour his strong foot to make through pass when odegaard play on right side

We need him to start bagging and be a success because his chant is a belter.

Those that regularly play football, how do you rate Gyokeres playing profile as a striker for a team like Arsenal’s style of play?

Having a no 9 in any team that likes to pass around will always leave a few gaps in the field somewhere. It’s just the way things are. Just gotta be more clinical in the final third so as to try push the opponents back and in a way not let that flaw be a major issue over the course of the season.

Can you imagine putting Gyokeres on the 2021-22 Arsenal team, the team that played fluid and attacking football?

The better question would be, can he adapt to the defense he is going to play against? Tougher and stronger opponents, less time for decision making, and less space to operate? I would compare his performance from yesterday to the the game he played against us last season. How is he going to adapt to a tougher league?

Remember, excluding the penalties, 1/3 of his goals last season were score against the bottom four from the league… league one level football.

No doubt he has a stronger desire to shoot and better ball striking technique than Kai. He definitely needs time to adjust and not going to score for fun that soon.

He’ll struggle big time. Our style of play is not suited for a traditional 9 in the slightest.

Because our play is very measured, controlled and laboured. There’s no way for him to go.

The only way he succeeds here is if our build up play changes to suit his strengths.

So far, our wingers act as if he doesn’t exist…

This is why Arteta wanted Benjamin Tesco, he likes lanky guys with nimble feet up top.

His movement is brilliant. The key is picking his runs early enough and providing support. It was interesting that Gyokeres pulled out to he relight quite a bit yesterday.

We’re taking too long to play the ball to him, we are aiming for feet rather than the space and even in his few good moments yesterday it was clear that he’s better when running onto the ball than having the ball played directly to him. The other key difference from yesterday compared to Bilbao was the lack of times the ball came in from wide.

Gyokeres is the right profile but we need to adapt our play.
