Gyokeres is the best signing Arteta has made.
He’s a game changer and goal scorer for a position we’ve lacked quality in for too long.
But he also has a winning mentality and wanted to come here to win trophies which will give the club the lift we need to win the title.

If we don’t sign Eze or Rodrygo, I think we will often field a front three of Gyokeres - Havertz - Saka.

Let’s hope everything you said works out to be true.

So a player you like/want and it’s Berta, if they fail they will be Arteta’s problem

Unfortunately that seems to be the way of the football world.

Arteta never wanted him, he wanted Sesko.

Much like how Pepe became Emery’s problem even though he never wanted him. He wanted Zaha.

The manager is still expected to make the player a success though.

Haha! I don’t believe this for a second - the club identifies more than one target - no way is there a player that Arteta specifically DOES NOT WANT that remains a target, the club have too much faith in Arteta for that. Gyokeres, Sesko and Isak were the 3 names mentioned as targets around the Emirates before Edu even left, so it is not like Berta came in and introduced the club to the idea of Gyokeres, he was already on the target list.

Possibly during negotiations it became such that the achievable one ended up being Gyokeres, but I cannot believe Arteta said he only wants Sesko and ended up with Gyokeres.

Emery never had even a 10th of the backing of the club that Arteta has.

It’s nice to sign a player that only plays one role. I’m not hearing at he is able to play left wing. Gyokeres can play left wing like I can play the piano.

The less tiki taka we have, the better. Wengers last years gave me anxiety, for real. It’s nice to watch but also frustrating af. To play the tiki taka Wenger wanted you have to have WC in every position - which Wenger (or the club) were too penny pinched to supply. If you don’t you just get nice play without end product + the lack of plan B with Wenger.
I had (still have some) doubts about Arteta, but he has showed more incline to play to the strength of the team. If that is tiki taka or long balls I don’t care, I just want silverware.

Not gonna lei, might be best to skip it. Dude is too awkward.
As long as he can kick the ball into the back of the net though we’re good.

You’ve based that on what exactly? :pires2:

The bits shared where he had to talk already and that vlog @Pires shared when he was at Sporting.

Comes off as robotic as Haaland. Hopefully he plays that way too.

The defense did not regress massively in 24/25 and the attack improved (marginally) in 23/24 from the year before. The attack certainly did regress in 24/25, notably with key players missing.

Saka: in 24/25 games played: 25, 16 goal contributions (assist + goals)
in 23/24 games played: 35, 25 goal contributions
Kai: in 24/25 games played: 23, 12 goal contributions (also the team’s leading goal scorer with 9
in 23/24 games played: 37, 20 goal contributions

Odegaard: 24/25: games played: 30, 11 goal contributions
23/24: games played 35, 18 goal contributions

Trossard: 24/25: games played: 38, 15 goal contributions
23/24: games played: 34, 13 goal contributions

Martinelli: 24/25: games played: 33, 12 goal contributions
23/24: games played: 35, 10 goal contributions

Trossard and Martinelli were pretty consistent in 23/24 - 24/25 (whether that consistency is good enough is a separate question). Looks like the attack issues stemmed from Saka and Kai’s production not being replaced after they missed well over a 1/3 of the season. Throw in Jesus dealing with injuries and it is not a surprise that the third choice forward (Merino) didn’t replace Kai’s output and there wasn’t an adequate replacement for Saka to pick up the slack on the right hand side.

Even Pep(book) would struggle with a 3rd choice striker.

Barring a rash of injuries again, I expect Arsenal to challenge for the title this season. The defense is the best in the PL; get the attack back to 22/23 - 23/24 levels and they’ll have a great shot to win the league.
