He’s definitely got a missile of a shot and pretty good placement.
I’ll also give him he’s shown great work ethic and he seems to have put the effort to improve despite not working to a great degree.
Unfortunately for him, he’s got some bad tendencies and deficiencies that it’s hard to work with at 28.
His pace and power which he used to abuse in Portugal is simply nothing a PL team should worry about.
His positioning in the box is poor and in the odd occasion he finds himself in a good position, he can’t help himself but take one too many touches which at this level you’re not afforded.
To me how we deal with this should be detrimental on Berta.
By all accounts he’s the one that seriously pushed for him despite the club not featuring in the club’s shortlist before.
Even if this turns out an uber successful season, it’s very clear this is not gonna work out, the more he stays, the more his value will drop.
He’s the type of player teams in Saudi and Turkey would be all over and will be willing to pay a good fee still, but that won’t be the case for long.
Get 30-40m for him while you can and move on.
I hate to say it but he’d be my #1 transfer target.
I can’t see Man Utd willing to do business for us unless we pay over the top, which I don’t think is wise.
I think that ship has sailed unfortunately. I think the only chance is if they missed out on the CL for the next couple of seasons and the player pushed for a move.
He doesn’t seem to be Carrick’s preferred choice up top which is encouraging if he stays beyond the summer.
As you said, they might have to consider offers if they miss out on CL.
However, I think they’re huge favourites to claim a spot with the favourable schedule and being the team in form compared to the rest trying to claim a spot.
Viktor was Berta’s big move and honestly, it’s concerning based on his understanding of this Arsenal team. Bit of a dent on his reputation.
We may not like it, but we simply do not play counter-attacking football, so the odds were stacked against Gyökeres unless we were going to completely change how we play as a team. I believe it’s also not unfair to say that some of this is on the manager not willing adjust but equally, you would expect that a player of his age and experience could have offered more.
We have some massive games in front of us and he has a chance of at least restoring some dignity to his name. Gotta back him until the end and assess what we need to do in the summer.
Berta entire summer is looking a bit suspect tbh with you. We spunked £65m on Eze who looks grossly ill suited to our style of play, similar money on Gyokeres who is not only ill suited to our play but generally a shit player.
We’ve got Norgaard in who is the total opposite of what Arteta likes in a midfielder.
That’s a comfortable £130-140m that hasn’t brought us a better squad.
