I agree. I would rather have Haaland or Kane if given the choice. Those are 2 of the top 3 forwards in the game right now and will retire as Hall of famers. Gyokeres is no where near their quality.
About his movement, it could be better but he does get free and does make runs which get ignored. It’s obvious the players are not trying to find him. We play the same wether he’s on or off and that’s not going to work. Gotta work with what you’ve got, or get something new to work with.
Yes I am as disappointed with his contributions as any other fan but It’s not entirely on him.
I think it is easy to get frustrated after a defeat and easy to be critical of certain players. We’ve got to remember that Gyokeres is still new, adjusting to both the league and the system, and he has just come back from injury. He will come good.
That said, with Jesus likely leaving at the end of the season…I think we need to be looking at bringing in a new striker.
Yeah, personally I’m all about Alvarez now. Sesko option has gone, for now. Alvarez looks elite to me. I was impressed by him when we played them in the CL.
He gave Gabriel and Saliba a tough time last season when he was in full flow. I feel like he hasn’t looked as sharp yet since joining us. Not worried as we have an abundance of attacking talent in the squad now, and with Havertz coming back we’ll have diverse options. No need to put too much emphasis on Gyok just yet.
I mean why does this really matter? In any given season you’re only likely to have 2 or 3 top teams with a few underperforming big teams and the rest of the league largely average.
If a player has a reputation for scoring against the lesser teams that’s still a pool of about 14-16 teams which is the vast majority of the league.
Previously we didn’t drop points against the “top” teams but dropped too many against the lower teams.
This season is a bit of a reversal - I don’t think you can afford a few dropped points against teams at the top of that table, if you do the business with the lower 14…
