I watched Gyokeres very closely today. Overall, I have to say I thought he was really impressive. His work rate was excellent, and he made some excellent runs off the ball. Always seemed alert and looking for an opportunity. Strong runs down the channels and was clearly a handful for the opposition defence. He seems very difficult to knock off the ball.
I had joked before with @Darkseid that his first goal for Arsenal would be a header, given the comments I made about him not being strong in the air and with headers, and all I can say is he took it really well. Fully deserved a second too, which was narrowly denied by the post, but I think both the goal and this chance shows he is going to be handful for defences.
I think in terms of areas of development, at the moment I would say the issue is more about how we can successfully integrate him into the way we play as a team. One of the reasons I was so keen on Sesko is that I could see how he could have slotted into our system and style of play. With Gyokeres we need to adapt and we need to feed him the ball.
Some of the positions he took up during set pieces surprised me, and his decision making could have been better on a couple of occasions (keeping the ball rather than passing), but these were pretty minor in the scheme of things.
Overall, I am greatly encouraged that he is a player who can hit the ground running for us. We just need to give him service and create the chances for him. I would give him a strong 8/10 for his performance today.
