Elden Ring thoughts

Definitely the most accessible FromSoft game I’ve played in that there’s a zone for everyone. The introduction of basic stealth, quick horse summoning and an abundance of safe areas fits this game and what it’s trying to achieve nicely. It’s a huge open world full of enemy and safe zones. There’s tons of jeopardy but also a lot of safety nets. If I’m in trouble I can fuck off, seek out easier kills for Runes (currency used for most things not just items) and level up elsewhere if I’m not ready for what I’m facing or if I’ve approached a situation the wrong way. Alternatively I can run past hordes of beasts and unlock more checkpoint areas that I can fast travel to later. The game gives the player full freedom for they want to do. There’s a massive sense of discovery and wonder and you can even summon co-op help for an area/boss if desired. There’s never nothing to do but the choice is on the player. It’s also a game where a lot can and pretty much must be learned online also.

The combat logic on these games makes more sense than most games out there (impact, direction and stamina actually matters) and the AI can never be underestimated. But that’s what catches so many newcomers unawares as basically no other game seems to follow this basic logic of physics. There is no ‘easy’ mode or a specific linear story. Just like other FromSoft games it lacks in some other things that AAA games usually nail. But the simplicity in these aspects actually helps the game.

I had to give up Souls and Bloodborne despite really admiring their art & world design as I couldn’t progress without spending ages trying to beat certain points. On Elden Ring if that happens (and it obviously does) I can stay out of stuff I’m not up for doing. I will say this though, just like with the case of RDR where it had a huge focus on a deep narrative and slow immersive moments, sacrificing a lot of gameplay and freedom, this game also is definitely not for everyone. A big part of the allure is in liking this type of dark fantasy genre.

Anyone that does give this game a go for the first time, I’d recommend watching a bit of this beginners guide:

Lol, I initially thought this was about the series.

Interesting to see what direction they take here. Feel Elden Ring has changed the game here so they’ll have to deliver big to make an impact.

Don’t remind me of the steaming pile of shit

Yeah where they take things will be interesting, I saw someone suggested a prequel series before the witcher pogrom and sacking of Kaer Morhen.

It going to be extremely difficult to top Witcher 3

I wasn’t up for more GTA, but then they added the “+”, and now I’m convinced there must be a load of new content that I’d hate to miss out on!

Can’t tell if serious :no_mouth:

This sparked the chatter over the weekend, naturally Knack was the meme prediction, and what do you know…

Anyway, expecting a big week from Sony.

Project spartucus launches
Show of more of PSVR2 with a release date/pre orders go live.

3rd rumor could be God of war Ragnork gets a new tralier with relases date or shows of another new exclusive due out this year.

Well, we should learn what this fuss is all about soon.
I assume we’ll hear from Sony today or tomorrow about this.

Post it here when it happens!!

Bandai finally announcing the One Piece RPG that’s been rumoured for a while.

Sounds like this has been worked on for quite some time. Not sure if we have any One Piece fans here. Haven’t watched show yet, just too much of a commitment for me to catch up on.
I wonder if this is gonna be a theme this week and we have general gaming news rather than Sony only.

Bro it’s way to much to catch up on that I haven’t bothered get back into although I want to. Might have to dedicate a whole week to it only taking breaks to sleep, eat and going to the throne room

It’s happening! :eyes:

Very easily sounds very interesting. Wonder if we’re indeed getting native support of older games. Game changer if that’s the case. PlayStation has an insane library.

Why don’t people just use PSNow, I literally just played Metal Gear 4 end Resident Evil Revelations 1 on it and it has tons of older generation titles including the full HD collection of MGS.

This just feels like something the modern gamer pretends to care about but genuinely won’t take advantage of. How many older games are genuinely worth going back to outside nostalgia? Not that many hence why Sony has never prioritized it. And the cult following players who do want these titles for speed runs or whatever have been doing so for free on emulators for years.

I really don’t understand the hype?

People want some sort of emulation at the very least rather than streaming and in general they want more titles from PS1, PS2, PSP, PS3 and Vita to be accessible.
It’s that case of preferring to having the option rather than not.

I read it a lot on Reddit and stuff and it just never makes sense to me, there’s tons of ways and means to play older games and if they really wanted to they would figure it out.

It sounds more like they want the option so they can argue Ps>Xbox or vice versa. I very much doubt these types of gamers will actually use the catalogue much if they don’t use the options already available. They’ll maybe go back to Crash Bandicoot for 5 minutes, realize it doesn’t play like they remember and that will be the last they’ll use of the backwards functionality.

I say this because there’s a fantastic way to play older games already in place, some of the larger ones can already be dl’d to your SSD but for the PS3 and below streaming makes zero difference, outside you get kicked from the server if you go AWOL. It’s cost effective and seamless.

Also nearly everyone has a smart phone these days, throw an emulator on that boy and relive your nostalgia. I’ve replayed both Crisis Core and FF Tactics on my fucking smart phone. PC is obviously better though but not everyone has a gaming PC at hand.

I hope this new update to the PSN subscription is a worth while evolution but backwards compatibility is something that should be down on people’s list. More of a side step really.
