Just pointing out that not challenging when you have a chance of winning it on the last day is a bullshit statement.
Well not really - we haven’t won the remaining games to claim we are going into the 38th game and challenge winning the league.
If we had won last night. it would be a different story.
As it stands Emery showed Arteta how to play football at the Emirates with an inferior squad
And you said “as it stands” we’re not challenging. Which, again, bullshit statement. League table says we’re challenging.
Statistics say we are challenging, common sense cq. brain says we are spectators to see City win its 4th consecutive title as it is much more likely we drop more points than City
Common sense
If we continue to lose games in the league, our challenge peters out.
‘As it stands’ we’re 2 points behind with a number of games to play.
We are better, we’re 8 points clear with a game in hand and a GD of +30 on them.
Yeah of course - we lost the title yesterday, but it was always going to be an uphill battle to win all remaining games. So statistics are nice and dandy, doesn’t mean we are challenging for real, on paper sure.
Common sense tells us City are likely to drop less points from here onwards - it is what it is
Yeah, should be expected from us - we still couldn’t beat them, twice this season. Not a great look on our mental fortitude in my opinion especially with a shot at the league.
I’m curious where Emery would’ve taken us if he was given the time (4.5 years) and budget (£600m+) that Arteta has been given.
Remember, this is Arteta’s first managerial job.
No we didn’t, and this is where your argument falls flat on its arse.
He did that, pity we got Rid of him so soon.
You will see at the end of the season that we did lose the title yesterday. We won’t make less mistakes from here onwards than City.
This is a better question. I don’t think he’d have done much better than Arteta, personally, but who knows.
We might have won something instead of being the nearly team.
The end of the season where we challenged right until the last day? Yes.
Nowhere near beating pep over 38 games.
Unai’s strength is cup comps.
Emery being a cup manager for the most part, I’m certain we’d have won a Europa at some point (that Chelsea game still hurts), unsure if he has the ability to last a 38-round boxing fight with the strongest football club in world football though.
It would also have helped his cause if he had gotten rid of toxic players like Ozil, Aubamayang and Lacazette at the time who were really not good for the dressing room towards the end of their stay.
Look - I think Arteta is a great manager so far, but he makes some unnecessary mistakes and Emery is a great coach. European success Arteta and Arsenal can only dream about, and he beat our asses twice this season with Villa who have no business being 4th in my opinion so that says something about Emery’s ability.
I will laugh my ass off if we end up being overtaken by Liverpool and your hypothesis collapses completely. But I like your optimism
Anyone that suggests Emery would best pep over 38 games is just talking nonsensical bollocks basically. For all Emery’s strengths that just ain’t one.
Nobody claims it - neither does Arteta is the point.
