Unai Emery

Good… bud not as good as the other one :joy:

If Sanllehi and Edu have a full faith in him, they must offer the contract extension.

It’s paradox but is logic.

I don’t see one single reason to continue with Emery, but if they see even only one good motivation, they should talk publicly or give us a signal: contract extension for the manager who has their fully faith.

oooooohhhhhh maaaaatron!

That makes no sense at all under current circumstances, but you probably know that.

What they are surely figuring out (unless they are fing morons, but I have not yet fully embraced that theory), is how and when to fire him and what to do during the interim period… perhaps (I fing hope not), they feel keeping stability until summer is better…

My theory is that they see the writing on the wall, as we do… it is game over for Emery (unless some bizarre miracle happens with a lobotomy involved). The issue is, do they think it is better with Freddie or some other interim until summer? I think if they see the team and fans are gone, they may. Today for the most part, the team looked committed and angry, but also lost. Ozil was the only player I saw towards the end fade and not try.

Emery is out - it is just a matter of time and what they do re: replacement. If I were Raul, I’d have pushed for it in summer and would be pushing for it NOW, but my guess is that he is afraid of being reactionary and trigger-happy, so is balancing patience (unwisely imho).

Did you know that Gazidis had been closely following Emery’s career ever since his Valencia days?
Gazidis made the fine observation that one of the noteworthy things about Emery’s teams, was that they always improve over time! This, along with the 100 page dossier, and Raul’s knowledge of Emery’s complex trivote, is why it’s beyond laughable to suggest that he should lose his job so early.

Just like his language skills improve over time. We’re nearly there tbf.

This kinda stuff is pretty well documented already, but still shocking.

Wait they had only 21 shots last night? I thought they had around 10 shots in the last 10 mins only including the additional time. So restricting them to around 10-12 shots for 88 minutes is an improvement :pleading_face:

I don’t read too much into press timescales on how long Arsenal plan to give Emery before sacking him but it’s clear now that he’s within a razor’s edge of going.

The international break was the perfect time because right now, everything here on in is collateral damage for the next person to step in. There’s literally no positives on keeping him in the job, it’s not going to get any better. You can see the players have given up already.

I honestly still don’t think so. Our board, to coin a phrase from the recent election debate, are dithering and delaying.

If they can somehow get Emery to the end of his contract and eventually leave quietly, they’d be happy to do so.

Emery is pretty much done as a CL manager, however he leaves Arsenal

Changed the thread title back, because frankly we shouldn’t be so pathetic.

This quote from Arseblog sums it up for me:

“Unai Emery is obviously a problem, but he is not THE problem. That lies with an ownership that is allowing this club to fritter away an entire season without strong, decisive action; and a football executive committee that believe they’re smarter than everyone else and refuse to do what’s best for the team and for the club. We dropped two points yesterday, and many will blame the head coach for it. Not me. Every single bad result, poor performance and dropped point is on them because they’re the ones allowing this to continue.”

Emery is not to blame for this situation continuing. Its done, over, his reign is dead. At any other club he would be gone. Its the ownership and the executive team that now deserve all of the criticism. And that criticism should be loud and sustained.

No matter how the fans are perceived from a boardroom level, the ‘noise’ will eventually prevail. There’s no way he’s allowed to continue for a whole season.

The board aren’t getting a good rep right now but I have a feeling they are lining up the next successor behind the scenes. I have no evidence whatsoever of that, just a positive hunch

You might be right.
Let’s hope that, after the ridiculous amount of time they have taken, it’s worth it.
Only managers of the quality of Allegri, Rodgers, Pochettino, Ten Hag, Ancelotti, etc, should be accepted.

I just hope the board have learned that lazy, cheap choices like Emery will drag us down even further.

But I have know doubt the board are more than capable, and definitely will, make another lazy, underwhelming decision.

Just pay him his due to leave ffs. We’ll lose more money the rate we going at when we lose a top4 placement.

The real issue is a replacement. The board may have a target for summer but that’s to far away.
Freddie might not want to do it. This leaves Poch and Allegri who might not be available.
It’s a bad situation but not as simple as some of us think.

Did anyone else notice an improvement in his English last night.
I know most of us are swearing at the TV when he opens his mouth but it was better. Just shite he was talking.
