Unai Emery

So impressed with Emery so far this season…need to wait until the end and reflect, but he has given us the opportunity of a top 4 finish and QF of the EL…not bad considering the squad he inherited with only limited funds in the summer.

As many others have said, I really hope that IF we secure CL football for next season, that the board back Emery in the summer window and allow him to sign 2-3 really top class players to bolster the squad.

I’m not judging until May and it worries me that 5 of our last 7 are away. If we do navagate our way through it though and secure a top 4 finish, then Unai gets a tick of approval for his first season in charge.

Yup that’s the best way to look at things to know how well Emery has done.

Also hits home the idea that if you ought to have a shit team, your better players should be strikers.

We are above spurs, Chelsea and Man U, which is amazing considering that when Emery took over, there were gaping holes and lack of quality in key positions and he had to change the whole culture of complacency which Wenger had instilled in the players.
He also had the disadvantage of having to play Man City and Chelsea in his two opening games

But the best thing he has done for the club is make it exciting and unpredictable.
Instead of complacency he has brought in a sense of urgency, and the players want to play for him.
There are no more lazy players getting a free ride despite their lack of form, no more pointless endless possession with no end product, or the lack of any substitutions before a certain time in a match where something needs to change.

With Wenger we knew exactly what to expect.
All we would get is the same uninspiring performances, the same dismal away form and the same players getting picked for every game.
Also we don’t see the big teams walking over us every time we play them, and we don’t have to hear the same feeble and embarrassing excuses from a manager that thinks he was above criticism,

This season we might not get a top four place but at least with Emery we don’t know what will happen, and it’s that unpredictability which has made this more exciting than what we’ve been used to in recent seasons under Wenger.

Huh?!?

You couldn’t be further from the truth mate. Refer to the TRUTH below

Worst moment in 20+ years @InvincibleDB10 mate. Dunno what you find exciting and unpredictable about this clueless guy with no ideas.

Tbf our football is predictable, but at the same time very effective.

Yeah at best we are now organised and efficient at home. Producing a bit more style as best we can with what we have. Long way from exciting right now.
Good enough for now is how I would put it so far. Still need to get to May to define it in full.

We have still plenty of holes and deadwoods though. Being 3rd with Mustafi as first choice is a sort of miracle.

The same sentence could be used for Liverpool and Man City.

It has to be mentioned we won 15 of our 19 home league games last season also.

The whole categorization thing is funny to me. Beat top 6, beat bottom 6, win at home, win away. Total points are all that matters. And beating Spurs.

Once a gooner, always a gooner.

Great watch and insight into Unai’s philosophy. Bodes well for the future.

Exactly, if it’s effective then I don’t give a flying fuck.

In fact he sadistic side of me quite likes the idea of being predictable yet in control with nothing opposition can do about it :hugs:

Leno

Jenko Mustafi Sok Monreal

Guen Elneny Ozil

Mkhi Auba Iwobi

Based in the available players, that should have at least been the lineup or formation today. The shape makes it so much better ffs.

No more 3-4-3 away ffs.

You can’t drop our best striker and probably player of the season lol

For away games Auba is better

Nothing he can does if the referee got paid to go against us. That would have been a 0-0 without that bad call.
