Unai Emery

Could have lived with it tbh. I was happy with Emery but them other 2 names would have got me on board.
Nightmare was Arteta but id have listened to anything else.

I would’ve been able to just about stomach Ancelotti because of his exceptional record in the past, but his falling out with the squad at Bayern was well documented. Some of the core complaints centered around his dinosaur like tactics and training regiments, so replacing Wenger with him would not have been the best choice imo. Part of what drew our decision makers to Emery was probably his training methods.

As for Blanc, I wouldn’t have been happy about that appointment at all tbh. He hasn’t even worked in a few years now.

My main point in responding to him is that it’s bizarre to continually criticise Emery and say “we should’ve gotten these instead” when there’s no reason to think they would have done a better job.

It would be nice (what an understatement!) for us to beat Manchester United on Friday, only to give an indictment that we have a manager and not a part-time coach in charge of our team.

If Emery does the job he’s being paid for, we should beat a shellshocked Manchester United side who won’t know what’s hit them

Come on my dude. I get being iffy about Blanc but Carlo? Dude has a fantastic record. Would’ve been great to steady our ship. The guy would’ve instantly tried to fix our defence which is vital going forward.

Let’s be honest, I’ve seen Arsenal ‘fans’ ask for Wenger to be sacked the day we won the FA Cup against the league champions Chelsea. (I would say you lot are more sane though so I take that back)

If the board had balls they would have told Wenger the day after he was out

Dunno about sacked. Not renewing his contract would have done the job.

Yeh it’s insanity he didn’t step down after that game. But I mean who are we to stop him dragging his legacy through the mud and going out like a complete bitch.

Tbh I don’t blame Wenger if you love your job you aren’t gonna leave of your own accord it’s down to your bosses to say thanks for your service but we are letting you go

Yep, but there were rumors of Arsene staying beforehand which had most fuming, which I get it but it was kind of a buzz kill right after winning the cup(where we knocked City and beat Chelsea in the finals).

True. Many speculated that it was gonna be a 1 year deal(I get it, the team had some steam so why not?), so I really don’t get how they went up offering a 2 year deal. I guess this fall right into the inexplicable management of having Ozil, Alexis and Rambo running down their contracts.

Ancelotti wouldn’t have been the worst choice, but many of the complaints surrounding him at Bayern were that his tactics and training methods were completely outdated, so I don’t really think it would make sense to appoint him to replace a manager who’s tactics and training methods were also completely outdated.

I just think complaining constantly about Emery and then arguing that Ancelotti would’ve been a better appointment without much evidence to suggest that he would’ve done better with the resources he’d be given at Arsenal is a bit much.

One ‘bad’ stint out of so many great ones though. Also, I find it pretty ironic for Bayern and the squad slamming Carlo for archaic tactics and management yet he was replaced by Heynckes.:joy:

Ancelotti is a managerial great and it was pretty sad to see people turning their noses up at him and suggesting people of significantly lesser quality be appointed our manager over him.

As he’s shown at Napoli, he’s adaptable and great motivator of players. He arrived at a team with a firmly embedded philosophy and he’s managed to make his own mark on a team that’s actually weaker this season than it was last year.

But his bad stint at Bayern has done enough to turn people off him completely.

I’d go so far as to say his 2nd season with Chelsea didn’t fill me with positivity either. Very mixed results- particularly when Chelsea were coming into the season in a position of strength.

Think they went through a period of about a month or so where they lost Lampard, Essien and Terry to injury and despite an electric start they ended up only winning something like 1 in 9 games over the period where players were out / returning from injury.

Either way not many managers have retained the PL title anyway. Jose and Fergie are the only two managers in the league’s history to accomplish that feat so it’s hardly a stain on Ancelotti’s record that he failed in that regard.

I agree with the overall sentiment that he probably should have done better but I think time has shown Chelsea to be a difficult club to maintain consistency at. Especially when he ended up having a £50m striker signed in January who couldn’t score goals.

That season even we had a serious chance of winning the league if we kept RVP, Fabregas and Nasri fit all season, from memory we were in it up to our eyeballs in Feb when we threw away that 4 goal lead on Tyneside.
