U.S. Politics

Both those races will go republican. To paraphrase my wife “never, ever underestimate the racism of bumfuck southerners” who would sooner vote for a criminal like Loeffler over a guy like Warnock.

They’ve done it. Pretty remarkable particularly for Ossoff

The Democratic party owes black voters, especially black women voters. They’ve saved their ass again.

Hahaha yesssssss GIRFUY Mitch you turtle fuck

Can we just skip the next 4/8 years and make Stacey Abrams the president now?

Has not always been that way yet they get nothing

Ossoff hasn’t won yet. It’s looking promising though. Majority of outstanding votes to be counted are in traditional Dem areas. So hope the news today is an Ossoff win.

So these two Dems winning Georgia - what does it actually mean for the Biden administration?

Or is it just a symbolic victory that a black and Jewish man win Georgia?

The senate will be split between both parties, meaning that Harris (president of the senate) can cast a tie breaking vote, which will logically favor her party.

So Biden will actually be able to get things done?

Dems technically control both houses. However he needs to get every senator onside including all of the corporate shills to pass anything

Corporate democrats will find it very difficult (including Biden himself) to go against an active party base that has put them in this winning position.

We’ve seen Republicans essentially demonize Democrats and leftists for 12 years. The current generation of Democratic voters are not buying the old kumbaya bullshit.

Yep, it means everything is theoretically on the table and GOP can’t obstruct Biden’s agenda.

However, there are many moderate/Right leaning Dems who will vote with the GOP against more “radical” proposals like ending the filibuster, expanding the Supreme Court, adding additional states and Medical care for all.

Before the run off there was a lot talk of Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia) actually switching parties, this is now very plausible and would put him in good stead in his seat when reelection happens.

Good thing is at the very least the senate wins today mean that Biden can confirm anybody he wants to his cabinet and senior federal agency positions. He can implement large parts of his legislative agenda such as huge tax increases, Covid relief and increasing the FG budget in certain areas like education.

Thanks, that was exactly the reply I was looking for.

Great post.

I’m gonna make a wild prediction. Biden can do what he wants now, but in 4 years he will have not changed a damn thing in this country. It will be more quiet tho I’ll give him that, he’ll definitively tell everyone what they wanna hear.

Well he’ll have no excuses if he doesn’t get anything done.

Just the first couple on the list of things to be done:

  1. Pack the court
  2. Do as much on redistricting as possible.
  3. Statehood for Puerto Rico.
  4. Proper action on climate
  5. Iran deal
  6. Healthcare reform

I’m betting they’ll do fuck all with it, and just try to keep the status quo as much as possible.

In the short term they can actually help pull the US out of the COVID debacle Trump helped exacerbate. There will be enough votes to pass an actual relief package without any of the bullshit liability protections attached.

Longer term I guess we’ll see. Biden’s feet should be held to the fire. The voting rights act needs to be passed. Certain corruption protections need to be passed. More Federal judgeships, particularly judges who used to be public defenders, need to be created and filled. We have too many judges who come from academia. And he needs to put the Green New Deal on the table. IDGAF if the vote is uncomfortable for a dipshit like Joe Manchin and the yahoos in West Virginia. Coal is over and it’s not coming back.

Edit: Totally forgot about health care. That’s on the table as well.

This theatre playing out right now is fascinating

It’s kinda funny seeing the GOP implode because of Trump. Pence knows to save his skin.

Was the MAGA movement real or just loud noise? Trump has lost the Presidency, House and Senate
