Gonna be a crazy time in New York with a 52% tax, but at least the bus will be free ![]()
No one is fleeing New York.
There is a large eco-system which you can’t outright replace somewhere else.
52% for the people earning over $1 million his tax hikes won’t impact the vast majority of New Yorkers.
I think he’s going to struggle to make any significant change in New York because he’ll be battling Trump and then all the New York governor who has already opposed his tax policies.
It’s a shame that he effectively doesn’t have enough power to make that much change in the city he’s been elected as mayor of so I’m not really that optimistic it’s going to work.
The only hope is that more and more younger people take to the polls and we never have to see guys like Cuomo in politics again
Of course, but it also won’t be enough to fund his policies with an extra 2% against those people.
I think Trump would be best off leaving him be, by tussling it gives Zohran a greater platform to make a name for himself. Trump doesn’t really benefit.
The fearmongering I saw was crazy and embarrassing. Nothing about his policies (some seem good, some seem terrible)
It’s a fucking Mayor position lol. This guy can’t even become president. He can’t turn it into the N.Y.S.S.R
He was there in the trenches with us
In the interests of fairness…
Now I know that most on the left have been appalled at the Democrats backed-down over the funding issue, I was at first, that “Big, Beautiful” Bill will cause damage to millions of people needing medical treatment.
Then I started wondering whether the Democrats actually did some tactics for a change and know that an open parliament will cause big problems for the Trump cult that is the Republicans. That Bill, Trump’s showpiece bill will funnel money to the super rich and cost millions more for medical bills, just as he’s now threatening to reduce funding for food aid under the Snap card system. These things will not go down with his base, the ones that voted for change and got short-changed instead.
Then there’s the attempt to get the Epstein files coming.
Could it be that they’re playing the long game here? I don’t think they’re that smart but, you never know, they might have made Trump feel worried now because he recently said there’s no need for parliament to sit for the rest of his term. We all know he’s barking mad but take what he says as his intentions.
No chance those group of clowns are that smart, sorry. The smart ones disobeyed the lines in order to open the government.
They got some concessions as well so at least their use of Americans livelihoods was somewhat beneficial.
They are smart. They just held strong till election and never had any intention to do anything of benefit for their constituents. They fooled everyone.
Who did they fool with this?
the whole shutdown was always about democrats looking for and trying to flex what power they had rather than actually looking for benefit for the people. Would likely be the same the other way around and probably will happen if the mid-terms go as currently expected.
Rarely are politicians actually out for what they say they are, it’s about personal power.
While the blame game is in effect. I can’t help but think how stupid this system is.
People who voted democrat hoping they will stand firm on healthcare cost
I think they need a proper progressive 3rd party. Shake things up a bit. Stops this endless power dynamic between traditional Democrats and Republicans.
I still blame Biden and his pick for DOJ, Merrick Garland, for the mess the US is in at the moment. They had a chance to imprison Trump and his dodgy family and associates, stack the Supreme Court and name DC as a state therefore gaining a red seat, but chickened-out.
Biden was never gonna do any of that. Trump might do some of it before he finishes up though…
They got no concessions. A handshake agreement to revisit healthcare policy in the future with a snake oil salesman is not a concession.
This is on Chuck Schumer. They intentionally picked Senators that were not up for re-election to be the fall guys for this capitulation.
We’ve seen this before with Democrats so it’s clearly not part of some grand strategy. The chaos and subsequent air traffic reductions probably had donors on the phone putting pressure on Schumer and other Dems to capitulate. That and Trumps threat to end the filibuster.
What the Dems did is not only cave for nothing but they have incentivized Trump and Repubs to do the same over and over again. Now medical insurance premiums will go up 200-400% making healthcare essentially impossibly expensive for 90% of Americans. And next Medicare/Medicaid will be on the chopping block.
Trumpy rolled back the mass clearout and agreed not to revisit it in the near term, so not nothing but obviously not what they were publicly hoping for.
Shouldn’t have set the expiry in the first place I guess. I’m sure in January we’ll see another shutdown.
I had the misfortune of watching the vote in Congress tonight. No wonder the US is fucked. Even on a subject that had the support of both sides, even on a subject which had drawn pleas from victims outside that party politics should be put to one side, even on a subject as binary as “do you support kiddie fiddlers or not”, representatives (particularly the Republican ones) made totally political speeches about those on the other side.
I know our political world in the UK is pretty broken but watching Congress just gave me brain rot. Meanwhile in the White House, Trump is threatening journalists for asking perfectly legitimate questions about Saudi Arabia’s involvement in 9/11.
“Land of the free” my arse. The only thing that’s free in the US are most of the men named in the Epstein files.
