I was thinking the same but didn’t want to suggest it as it would be poor on all sides if that was the case.
Also doesn’t quite add up with trying to extend him.

FFS I hope this doesn’t distract the club of GETTING A FUCKING FORWARD!!!
Hopefully so. Because the alternative seems like there’d be some kind of deal to limit the damage to Arsenal’s reputation.
The club will have certainly been informed of the ongoing investigation by the police and I imagine had the option to explore the options of if they could continue playing Partey or suspending his contract.
We’re not privy to the clauses etc and I imagine the likes of Tim Lewis (lawyer) working for the club are diligent in navigating the legalities of a situation such as this and found that they could continue playing him into proven guilty.
The social media platforms will be rife with opposition fans given it large to us but what do we have to defend?
Sorry, how are arsenal - a football club, supposed to have better confirmation of a person’s guilt than an entire team of professional investigators?
People acting like Arsenal should have known more about it than anyone else.
What else can you do but suspend the player at the point they’re charged? Suspend them prematurely, and in the event they aren’t even charged, you’re signalling further guilt, and the person has lost out on years of their (fairly limited) professional career.
I think the thing Arsenal are most accountable for is the decision to keep playing him. That’s what the club will be under the microscope for.
Its complicated by the injunction Partey had in place - if Arsenal had dropped him, would that have had an impact on the ban on naming him?
We, in the first place, as Arsenal fans/supporters, shouldn’t be making this worse than it is. We know most rival fans couldn’t wait for this to happen and they will do all they can to make it as bad as it gets.
The club decided to keep him even though there was rumoura and suspicion about this for a few years now. I guess they thought it through.
In one hand, you can’t just let someone go because of some rumours… He ends up innocent and you look silly.
Obviously now whet it really got to court we decidet to part ways I think that sounds about reasonable.
If he does end up convicted it does look somewhat bad on us… but what were we supposed to do? To pusnish him ourselves before it even got to the trial? We know more than the police etc?
I wont comment much on Partey, I hope he gets a proper and fair trial, but I wouldn’t make too much out of this regarding the club. It’s a shit situation, no club wants to be involved in it, but I don’t think we have done anything wrong.
Arsenal are going to have to make some kind of statement here. Good luck to whoever has to write that.

I think we were fucked either way. If we suspended him based on heresay, then we open ourselves up to legal action as well.
Absolutely. Not an enviable position at all.
On the subject of why now, perhaps the kindest interpretation for Arsenal is that with Partey out of contract the possibility of him leaving the country permanently made a decision more urgent.
Christian Norgaard not looking so bad now, eh boys
Everyone moaning about poor Zubimendi and his little legs in his first PL outing can get in the bin now
If we suspended him based on heresay, then we open ourselves up to legal action as well.
Wrong.
There’s no “heresay” involved in this matter
Suspension with pay is not a breach of contract, it cannot give rise to legal action when pay is fully guaranteed under the terms of a contract
the person has lost out on years of their (fairly limited) professional career
Its privilege to be a professional footballer and play for Arsenal, not a right.
There’s no obligation on the club to make sure he plays football, which is why the club should have suspended him with pay as soon as they were aware of the police investigation.
Way this is getting waived away by some is nasty work, not necessarily here but online also
They were looking to extend him still too
It’s far from simple to just say he’s no longer employed by us and that’s the end of it

Agreed, but the fact that we were considering extending him isn’t going to help how it’s perceived. If you look at the situation from afar, most people are simply going to conclude that we kept a player around for as long as we possibly could despite everyone knowing full well about these allegations for years. There’s just no way the club escapes serious heat for it now, regardless of who knew what and when.

Most of us waived it away, until he was no longer an Arsenal player and subsequently charged.

Out of interest, do you just mean it won’t be the end of media criticism and the same from people on socials, or do you envisage wider, more concrete consequences for the club?
no way of walking away from this one, the club are going to have to take the L. Lots of ‘rape culture’ chants will be coming our way from next season.
Club better put out a statement quick.
At the end of the day; Partey wasn’t charged during his time here, he was under investigation. Let the police do their work & if/when it turns out there is enough evidence to charge him; then take him to the cleaners etc.
Now that he has been charged and can be identified, it’s court time.
Hopefully he gets convicted and goes behind bars.
Hopefully he gets convicted and goes behind bars.
If he’s guilty, sure.
Is he innocent until proven criminally guilty or should he be hung then drawn and quartered right away. Some of you guys are ridiculous. According to the law and morality blah blah blah he is an INNOCENT man.
What kind of society would we be living in if innocent people get their lives destroyed just based on accusations. This is what the court is for. The whole Mendy debacle is still fresh and still we have people baying for the blood of an INNOCENT man.
Quite disgusting!!
