Thomas Partey

I think it has everything to do with the stats based approach clubs take these days and how he doesn’t really shine too bright in that regard

I recall something like he gave away the ball resulting in goals the most in that Atleti side but you’d have to imagine that his combative and aggressive nature would do well in the stats department not to mention the ground he covers take ons etc. When he really is on for us his stats are pretty immense too so you have to imagine they were great at times in Spain too, though many clubs might not look past his mistakes.

Fuck stats anyway Partey absolutely breathes ball, eloquent as you’ll get on the eye and the closest thing I’ve seen to Yaya Toure in this league in quite sometime- if only he could find goals. Such a shame we don’t have someone like Cazorla to play next to him. Though I suppose the most complimentary thing you could say is that Partey makes Xhaka look like a normal footballer.

the only thing i would say about him is he needs to either stop shooting from long way out or at least practice. It is frustrating him doing this and then the opposition have the advantage it breaks our play constantly.

While I agree it’s frustrating he needs to keep trying and keep going. It’s something he absolutely has in his locker and a few goals from deep midfielder is something we’re crying out for as a team.

Even if you watch like 30 seconds of that you’ll see a bunch of screamers.

Man has goals in him we just haven’t seen it yet.

:santi:

We win the league over Leicester with a midfield of Partey and Cazorla. No doubt in my mind.

I think they’re actually kind of similar players in the sense that they are super press resistant but they wouldn’t get in each other’s way.

I still haven’t accepted that we wasted prime Cazorla. It’s something idk I’ll ever get over.

Absolutely agree so many of our fans kidding themselves that Coquelin and Santi were a great pivot when the reality was Santi would literally make a non professional player look quality out on the pitch.

I’m also really sad we didn’t bring Cesc back to play alongside Santi, for a little period we could have had a triangle of Cesc, Santi and Arteta which would have been a fantastic midfield to watch.

Wenger was too proud I think.

We’ll never know the truth, and we had Özil at the club too so it didn’t seem insane.

However, I genuinely think Wenger was so put out by Cesc leaving and the way he left that he didn’t want to bring him back.

And it’s not like Wenger was adverse to bringing back former players. Flamini and Sol came back, former players trained with the club all the time.

He let it get personal.

Wenger would never have moved for Partey.

Coquelin was painfully out of his depth especially in Europe. His reputation is based entirely on Wenger neglecting a midfield need.

In 2015 Partey was just returning to Atletico after a loan with the B team. Seems like exactly the type of guy Wenger used to target.

I think he means a move like the move we made to get Partey recently, not that he wouldn’t have signed him back then. Of course Partey would also not have been the player he is now back then so it doesn’t really matter either way lol

Well deserved, more of the same please Thomas

He’s gonna decide the NLD with an absolute thunderbolt. Lloris won’t know what hit him.

I’m not sure who is silencing the haters more these days, Mikel or Partey. Parteta.

I think Partey got more of a pass for a while b/c of the focus on Xhaka and Arteta, but its absolutely fair to criticize a lot of his earlier work with us… huge that he is now turning into a proper player for us. Honestly, there were some games where it was hard to differentiate who was worse - him or Xhaka - and I hate Xhaka (he is playing better granted).

Each to their own but I always found the excessive criticism of Partey super lazy. The dude is absolute quality and he’s been showing it since he got here, maybe not consistently enough for some, but people were getting on like he was fucking Coquelin out there.

People were just looking for any reason to put him down, much like Mikel. Dude’s been immensely important for us over the course of this entire season, we wouldn’t be where we are without him.
