Thomas Partey (5)

We need depth and a serious roster. Letting go of Partey doesn’t make sense to me. Can we ship out all the bums first.

We don’t want to lose Nelson but prepared to lose Partey. Just fuck right off with this nonsense.

Would he even be healthy before January?

He won’t be a footballer before January that’s for sure.

Jorginho would likely still be here as backup ahead of Elneny either way. If we can get Rice, Caicedo and Gundogan (feels a bit fantasy stuff but you never know) then that lessens the impact of losing Partey, as well as xhaka.

Completely disagree. Rice is not as good as what Partey at his best has been and Mount has to prove he’s still the talent he seemed to be a few years ago.

If we lose Partey and gain Rice that pushes the club likely backwards and at best still the same no way is that a forward step.

Rice has always consistently profiled better than Partey in the 6 spot. Check any metric you like over the last 3 seasons

Rice is a specialist there and there’s more to come from him moving forward. I think Partey is a better rounded midfielder generally, especially in terms progressing the ball in offensive transitions

Rice and Partey is better duo than Rice Caicedo that’s for damn fucking sure.

I’d be worried about blowing everything up. We didn’t have enough depth for the EL never mind a CL campaign. Sure Trossard and Jorginho will help but losing Partey is two steps backwards type shit.

Puts a boat load of pressure on whoever comes in as well. I reckon this is all just media talk but I don’t dig it

Exactly if we wind up with the same number of quality players but with even less time playing together we’re definitely not improving. Highly doubt we would even get close to this seasons points tally in that scenario. Surely once you have a decent first XI you build on it not blow it up and start over.

I don’t like the idea of selling him unless there is something we don’t know about the allegations.

It just feels like we have too much other business to do this summer and you can’t replace an entire midfield and not expect to experience some major bumps as the new players learn the system.

I do think we need to rely on Partey less and have him become a valuable rotational option rather than a lynchpin of the side. You can’t build a team around a guy who is either injured or in shit form at the business end of every season.

If you blow it up in the right way you’re set for the next five or six years with minimal pain though.

We lost Parlour, Vieira and Edu within 12 months of winning a title unbeaten.

I don’t buy into this logic.

That was bad replacement. You have to do it correctly.

I’m genuinely at a loss as to what has happened with this guy so more than happy for people with more knowledge of the situation to fill in, but is it to do with “those” allegations, I always thought he was a semi unsellable. But then I’ve also not watched a massive amount of games either.

I doubt he’s going personally, mainly because it would be odd for us to gut our midfield like this after losing Xhaka.

Partey has been brilliant for us this season and at one point probably the best midfielder in the league. The potential concerns with him is his recent drop-off, the allegations, injuries and I guess his high wages(I believe he and Jesus were our highest earners before Saka signed his new deal).

I di eventually see him going, but I don’t think now is the time. Even if the new DM displaces him, Partey is extremely versatile and can offer solutions in various positions if needed.

How are we going to sell if it’s about the allegations.
This is doesn’t make sense in any shape or form.
I very much doubt after a full season of football this will bare any fruition.

I think this is what I’m struggling to understand, we paid £45m for him in 2020 (not a tiny amount), he’s been pretty consistent in the midfield and had his off days like anyone else, he’s 29, his high wages are what we agreed to pay him when we chased him to sign for us, none of it adds up at all.

I’m sticking to my guns. He’s off this summer.
Nothing to do with allegations, everything to do with Arteta losing faith in him.

Losing Partey isn’t going to make us have a stronger squad to beat out city next season, should it eventuate hopefully we bring in quality so at least we don’t lose ground.

Say we get 20-30 from selling Partey and have to spend 90 mill on rice that is nowhere near a 60-70 million quid upgrade.

I think in terms of quality it’s a sideways move, the benefit of Rice though is 5 years younger and more durable.
