Yeah I can see why a lot of pro sports players struggle after their careers are over. Must be weird to basically get to your mid 30s and have to start life over again. When you’re young that age seems so far away and yet when you get there you probably realise that you are only about 25-30% of the way in.
I mean obviously they can retire and do nothing but I feel like that in itself would be tough after having such an intense start to life.
I hope the club bring him back in some capacity just to hang around for a few matches. Never his biggest fan because he was so goddamn frustrating but he’s definitely in credit with me just for the trolling of Spurs fans while being stretchered off.
We saw the best of him we were ever going to see. He didn’t even break 100 League goals which is kind of shocking. The early years with Wenger persisting with him when he wasn’t ready was brutal.
When I first started supporting Arsenal, Theo also began his Arsenal journey. At the time, I didn’t think my Arsenal affiliation would outlive Theo’s career
His being billed as a striker of unreal potential from the age of 16 did nothing to help him. He was an effective winger, and for a couple of years a very effective one. No more, no less.
Yeah, agree him being hyped up didn’t help him. Think there was a time he was being compared to Henry(after he got the no. 14 shirt?) which didn’t do him any good either. A player like Henry who has all of skill, pace, intelligence and finishing is a once in a generation talent. Theo had no tools to be striker at all. A winger who got decent amount of goals is what he was. Not the worst, but not world class either. A Top 4 player but not someone who can push your team for the title.
Bah at 14. Even Ollie G managed a season with 16. Theo was decent threat for a year or two but come on. Titi had 7 seasons in a row leading, with totals from 17-30.
