The message from management over the summer was clear - they felt the squad was good enough to win the biggest trophies. It wasn’t a case of adding something special, different or evolving, just adding more physical, technically decent players. Some of the squad we know need form to return and some definitely need better coaching.
I suspect late outgoings in the summer limited their ability to do much else with the team, meaning their may be some funds available in January. But I highly doubt it would be for the difference maker we’ve been needing.
Regarding other managers, you never really know how things will turn out. Emery’s profile was ideal for where we were, but it was hard to understand how they were supposed to play and didn’t really work out. Arteta had no experience and look at the progress he’s made
Fun fact, Arsenal are unbeaten in 10 London derby matches this calendar year. The last team to do that was Chelsea in 2005. We done it last in 2004…hopefully a good sign of a Championship winning team!
The fact we’re still fighting on all fronts despite the tough schedule, the silly sending offs at the start and the many injuries across all positions is commendable to the work the club is doing.
Just look at how City have crumbled this season. Even Liverpool suffered the same fate a few years ago too.
to think that we could’ve been at least level on points with Liverpool if we didn’t shit the bed when it came to those red cards… or rather if the refs didn’t implement the rule so ferociously… as now it seems like barely anyone is being cautioned for it.
Everything has gone wrong this season from red cards to injuries to a bunch of extremely fine margin moments like Martinelli being six inches offside v Fulham, Trossard missing at the death vs Chelsea, Havertz having a winner chalked off vs Liverpool, conceding at the death v City, etc.
Its tough to win the league if this many things goes wrong, while so many things go right for one of your main competitors. It is what it is, no use crying about it. Lets go win a cup or two then go again next year with a revitalized attack.
Agreed but that doesn’t mean a new reality hasn’t hit home since. There’s a massive premium attached to January for the type of players that can be real difference makers but the club would surely know the team is in real need of a serious investment here.
I should clarify, that was their strategy - adding those type of players; merino, calafiori. I’m not saying it was the best strategy or I agreed with it.
I haven’t a clue what kind of profile they’re looking for next. And with the vacant director’s post, it could be completely different.
I get this from rival fans(especially ones who support clubs in a sorry state of their own) who try to score imaginary points but what the hell does this actually mean for us?
This is year 5, the third year in a row we’re competing for major honours. Is this supposed to be bad?
