The State of The Arsenal

Saka is clear of Foden. I get your point though just let’s not forget that.

I’d give Saka the edge no doubt.

We also have Odegaard and Martinelli who would walk into any other PL side.

Our first team is arguably as strong as Man City and it’s only their massive strength in depth that saw them beat us to the title.

But after this window, we’ve strengthened significantly while they have sold several first team players.

We would have won the league if it was their main striker who’d been injured for 3 months and we’d had Jesus available all season.

Mmm tbh technically foden is miles ahead but Saka has the athleticism and so far delivered much more on the pitch.

How much is down to fox end injuries and choppy game time, who knows.

Our transfer business this window has been astute. We bought three great players in: Timber, Havertz and Rice.

We got a bit fleeced by West Ham, but when we win the league come season nobody will care anymore :money_mouth_face:

It’s crazy how much better our squad looks already just from those 3 deals.

White, Timber, Tomiyasu

White, Saliba, Gabriel, Timber, Kiwior

Zinchenko, Tierney, Kiwior

We now have the option to let Tierney play his game on the left properly if Zinchenko is out cause we can use Timber on the right to fill in with the inverted full back duties and give that extra body in midfield when in possession. So there’s no actual need to move Tierney on anymore. Flexibility.

Puts us in a really strong spot. Either FC Bonesaw cough up the money or Tierney can stay. I have absolutely no issue keeping a guy of his caliber around. It may even be useful to have someone who excels in a different style as an option.

Who would have tought that we would be spending this much?

Bet that’s more than Wenger spent in 22 years here. Think it shows that having the Kronke’s buy the club was indeed an overall net positive.

Yeah, when Usmanov left spending started.

The whole league has gone wild with spending.

United have spent about the same during this time period. Spurs have spent only a little less. City a little less, and that’s only because they entered this period with the best team having spent massively in the years beforehand. Chelsea spent more just in the last 12 months.

The amount of spending has gone so crazy that its become literally impossible to compete with teams like City on the pitch without spending big money. Club doing the right thing moving with the times especially when we’ve got a great manager like Arteta at the helm.

When Real paid around €72 million for Endrick, teams have to pay premium to catch up, even the 16, 17 years old youngster.

What kind of comparison is that? Prices have inflated way beyond what anyone was paying during his reign.

True. Though I’m convinced if the previous regime were still in place (not just Wenger, but his old guard too), we wouldn’t have signed players like Rice at these current valuations.

Zinny, Timber, Jesus still would’ve happened though as their prices were more reasonable and measured.

How much do we think this Declan Rice would’ve cost in 2016-2018? Around £60-80m?

Not even that, especially at the 2016 end. I think 40-50m

The thing is that Wenger spent a lot of money on not so good players.

I think Granit and Mustafi were bought for £35m a piece in the 2016/17 window. Think this was just before valuations started skyrocketing.
