I saw the video and found it ‘meh’
While I do take Saka as a bit overrated by most of the fanbase, when I use him as a comparison it’s not to make him look shit, I always use him to highlight how good those players are and how highly I rate THEM at that point, not how low I rate Saka. Maybe it seems like that to some because they don’t rate those particular players as I do, idk
And why do I use him so often… Why not? All of those are wingers, or attackers in similar zones, right? If I start to compare him to CMs or defenders you could start to argue against it lol
And as said, it’s handy to use him as a reference among the Arsenal fanbase precisely because they know him well enough. Maybe it’s triggering to some, but I don’t care.
Ok, I don’t have a problem with someone rating Saka over him, it is close, but personally what he produced in those 2-3 peak seasons was a bit better than what Saka has shown so far.
Talking about the goals, wingers at the time weren’t producing anything near in terms of goals as they are doing nowadays. Just look at Giggs’ numbers.
I think a guy of Duff’s pace, ability, good finishing etc, would be scoring far far more in the modern systems.
I just thought Duff was brilliant during that first Mourinho season when they won the league quite convincingly. Also in the season before with Ranieri.
He declined quite rapidly, I remember being quite surprised by it. Lost the pace all of a sudden, surely had some injury I didn’t know about at the time.
He was Irish.
There could be a real semantics argument here about who was or wasn’t a winger, but Pires, Ljungberg, Kewell at Leeds etc were hitting double digits regular enough…difference makers. I dont class Duff as that. He was an important cog, but a replaceable one for that Chelsea team.
