The R.I.P thread

Rip

RIP
Paul Mariner , made his name for Ipswich along side Alan Brazil , then joined The Arsenal .
I had the great pleasure in meeting Mariner when he was being coached back from injury.
Mariner had so many injections in his Achilles’ tendon he couldn’t walk backwards without difficulties .
Great player
RIP Paul

He can’t have been that old, either, I’m guessing?

Was that pain relief to allow him to play while injured? If so, OUCH

It was , the physio was called Roy Carter and he was there with Eric Gates , Alan Brazil and Paul Mariner . Roy , was getting them to stretch and get movement back in the Achilles .
Mariner was in a pretty bad way with this injury.

I can sympathise, when my achilles tendonitis is really bad I can’t put any weight on my right foot. I’m either on crutches or crawling.

Fuck that’s too young. Was he ill or?

Oh man

One of my favourite darts players was Andy Fordham. Watching him in the mid 90s on the BBC, playing the likes of Steve Beaton and Ray van Barneveld and Richie Burnett was a joy to behold.

He’s going up to that Darting Valhalla in the sky as the late, great Sid Waddell used to say.

RIP Andy Fordham :pensive:

Suffered alcoholism over the years and had chronic weight issues all his life. Over 30 stone at one time.
Stylish player though and lovely bloke. RIP
