I’d say there’s definitely a duty in protecting the game, whether that also includes the traditions of English football is up for debate.
Also I’d like to mention it’s only very recently football clubs are viewed as businesses but not everyone views them that way. It’s a very Arsenal view if anything.
FIFY bro. They’ve always been businesses, from the moment they started charging people to watch they became business. I would say that they weren’t seen as brands, but clubs have been selling memberships, jerseys and other memorabilia since the 70s possibly even earlier!
With the amount of technology available to us, and streaming services, 3pm blackout doesn’t really exist.
If you want to watch a top flight game that isn’t on Sky or BT, you still can and millions of people do so. All top flight games are broadcasted live in other countries except here. If a fan wanted to watch their team, they’ll find a way and it’s not even hard anymore.
But why oh why won’t someone think of West Chippington FC in the 17th tier of the football pyramid in the Lower Upper East Sussex Papa John’s Conference League Division?!?
Surely all the people who would watch Man Utd and Ronaldo play will make the trip down to support West Chippington FC on their lumpy pitch with no covered stand in the rain and not just find an online stream for the United game from the comfort of their own home??
It’s a real thing. You might not do it, but some fans of PL clubs do go and see their local team if their main team is away/not on TV. If you don’t like it then fine. But no need to be a prick about it.
I see the point you’re making but the only reason I’m going to see Brentford play is because of the Danish connection. I’ve lived in Fulham for 3 years and I’ve never been to a Fulham game. In fact this will be one of the only times I’ve prioritised watching another game over Arsenal in the last 12 years.
All those opportunities over the years to watch Fulham struggle fuck their way out of the Championship and yet I always chose to watch a 1080p HD stream w/ English commentary of the Arsenal games instead. Crazy
You’re going to have your head turned by the bright lights of Brentford, with their attractive style of play and then abandon the grass roots football of the lowly Arsenal.
