The Other Premier League Fixtures Thread (old)

I envy your ability to mock other clubs and their signings at this particular moment

Come on, that was a funny edit.

Can’t believe none of our goals are nominated for this

If it means Spurs turn em over, I’m all for it.

Thread here on the 3pm blackout. I know this issue annoyed some people before.

The thread goes on to explain why iFollow is bad, why the blackout needs to stay and why it isn’t really a thing in other countries. Mainly because their top league doesn’t go up against the rest.

Good thread to read in its entirety for all those people who think the blackout is archaic and needs to be axed.

One solution I’ve seen floated about is to not play Premier League games at 3pm on a Saturday, reserving that slot for Championship and below.

Premier League kick-off times to get around the blackout.

Friday - 7:30pm
Saturday - 12:30pm and 5:15pm
Sunday - 12:30pm, 3pm, and 5:30pm
Monday - 8pm

I for one would support a permanent arsenal blackout

I like this idea. At the end of the day someone is as likely to stay at home and watch a shitty stream as they are to have a sky/bt subscription anyway.

I don’t think it’s as simple as moving all the slots. Plus, 3pm on a Saturday is a good time for actual match going fans. It was fine having spread out times during a pandemic when fans weren’t allowed.

Though I do like the fact that this debate has popped back up again purely because Man United are on at 3pm this Saturday and people want to watch Ronaldo make his second debut for them

This is a forward thinking solution. The bigger issue is though this whole pyramid system and poor leadership in the EFL is a bigger problem.
It’s no longer realistic for certain clubs aspiring to reaching to the PL and some the championship.
The old traditional arguments are out dated now with a 24/7 world.
Sport is only good when you have equal competition or a chance of aspiring to it. You can’t now and this is why a radical shake up is needed.
I was against the EPL on principle of how it was delivered primarily and how it cut the legs of those behind.
At some stage though this quaint notion of the pyramid system allowing equal opportunity will have to be brought into the real world and addressed.
Football is too big now and will have to expand in someway and the sooner those underneath realise this and secure their own future on it’s on significant level the stronger they’ll be.

Agreed. Even if one is starting their journey in Dublin. But there are 380 games in a season and when you take TV and those limited to Sundays due to Europe you end up with what…70/80 matches actually played in that slot? It’s probably the least disruptive thing they could do.

How many TV games are there per gameweek? 4 or 5…keep that the same. The rest can be PPV.

5:15pm/5:30pm slot (staggered kick-offs because why not?) replaces the 3pm bulk slot. So that amounts to 5 or 6 games rolling at the same time. Lastly, it leaves enough time for travelling fans to get the last train home.

I think we’re overlooking the travelling fans for kick-off times.

I can remember watching Arsenal at Newcastle a couple of seasons ago. 3pm KO on a Saturday was glorious. Not leaving at stupid o clock, not arriving home on, basically, Sunday.

Change that fixture to a 12.30pm or 5.15pm and you’re done up like a kipper. Having been to early and late fixtures at the Etihad and Anfield respectively, it kinda ruins your day (and not just because we conceded 5 goals in both games)

Think you’re being too simplistic about it to be honest. There are too many logistics. Matches moving for TV is always a bugbear for travelling fans, and the 3pm kickoff is sacred. I know some matches do get moved to early or late kick offs, and that can be annoying, but you’re suggesting that ALL the matches move to these other slots which would just be shit for so many people every week, just so 7 people can watch Southampton v West Ham on PPV.

Not to mention the Premier League will want to keep the foreign TV market as it is.

I’d happily not have the option of being able to pay £20 for Arsenal v Norwich on PPV and just leave it in its 3pm slot. Did Sky Sports or whoever even make any money from the PPV during the pandemic anyway?! Seemed like it was more hassle than it was worth.

City and Liverpool will both be without their first choice GKs. Looking forward to seeing Scotty C in goal.

Wait.

So PL teams can’t play their players that went to red list countries because they have to quarantine on for 10 days in return. So PL players don’t let them go.

However, if they don’t let them go FIFA and UEFA will ban them from letting those players play in the PL?

So no matter what, PL teams are without their players lol

What a shit show, also why can FIFA force the PL and it’s team not to play specific players?
