Anniversary of Get Rich or Die Trying the other day too.

Was a big album for me, was into Eminem as he came up and once we knew Fifty was Em’s boy then we were on that album. I love it to this day and have seen Fifty live countless times.
Might have to have an afternoon one time soon and listen to all it all the way through again, might even get it on LP so I can put it on the record player!!

Listened to Get Rich or Die Tryin this morning, there are almost no identifiable weak spots on the album, it’s basically killer track after killer track. I’d say my favourite tracks are Heat, If I Can’t and Many Men.

Didn’t even need a reminder of how much of a classic this album is, I pretty much listen to it once a month ish.

Can’t think of another rapper who burst on to the scene and immediately took the whole game over in the way 50 did, it really was something else.

Love If I cant
He came out to that when I saw him first few times. Explosive track, have clear memories of his stage set-up being the NY skyline and he came out to that and jumped down off one of the buildings

Absolutely superb

Top 5 song in UK rap history.

This and Cry by Swiss are my two :goat: UK rap songs

Cry is certified as a UK classic.

Think my top 5 in no order is Cry, So Rotton, A New Problem (Mashtown), Council Estate of mind (Skinnyman) and Joints (Ktrap and Blade Brown).

Having no Hus, Dave, Giggs or Klash seems crazy though.

Decided to go through Nas’ discography and listen to all of his albums, as there are a few I don’t know that well.

After Illmatic there’s It Was Written, I Am and Nastradamus… this might be sacrilegious to some, but that’s three pretty average albums in a row. Particularly I Am and Nastradamus, both released in 1999, which makes me wonder if he might have been better off focusing his efforts on releasing just one excellent album, instead of two passable ones.

After Illmatic he had to wait until Stillmatic before he had another album that is excellent imo.

It was written is a classic too IMO

But;

Illmatic
Lost tapes
Stillmatic
It was written

Those are my 4 favourite Nas tapes. He’s the :goat: but he definitely has some underwhelming albums. I Am and Nastradamus are just plain shit lol

I did have It Was Written as being the least “mid” of those three albums, and debated including it, but I did because it falls between Illmatic and Stillmatic and imo is by a fair distance inferior to those two albums. So it felt like it made sense.

Haven’t listened to Lost Tapes before, looking forward to that next when the last few tracks of Stillmatic are done.

Also looking forward to God’s Son, as it contains Get Down, one of my favourite Nas tracks of all time, it’s the track that first made me aware of Nas back in the day, and got me into him.

@SRCJJ “What Goes Around” is currently on, I’m pretty sure I remember the beat from one of Akala’s Fire in the Booth sessions.

Hands Down the Greatest FITB sessions imo, not even close.

Apart from Roll Safe, of course :sol:

My favourite beat ever. LES was a master in his prime.

Nas’s discography makes him the GOAT. He’s put out so many classic albums that it’s not really debatable at this point.

Lost tapes is incredible and so are Lost Tapes 2. Nas has put out 3/4 albums in the last 2-3 years, all arguable classics (Kings Disease 1-3 and Magic).

Even Jay Z has some bad albums

It was Written was a lovely album, main thing holding it back was that it came after Illmatic.

I’m even more polarised, Illmatic is a 10/10 goat discussion hippety hop album, It was written is ok, the rest I don’t care for whatsoever :bellend:

Agree on the Nas sentiment. Illmatic and stillmatic are classics. It was written is top tier as well. Outside of that do not see any of his other studio albums as classic. Think Jigga has a far better record with albums.

It Was Written is really good, just suffered a bit from the fact it came after Illmatic. It’s got a different kinda theme to Illmatic, more of that kinda darker mafioso vibe that was popular around then as opposed to Illmatic which was a lot more upbeat.

I agree about Nastradamus, it is easily the worst album of his in that period between Illmatic and around 2005. Probably ever tbh

I Am actually has some decent tracks like Small World, Undying Love and We Will Survive (this is a great track in terms of content as its about BIG and 2pac and was probably written shortly after their deaths). I dont mind some of the other tracks but yeah its a pretty aversge album overall.

I’m not a huge fan of Street’s Disciple either but there are a couple of great songs on that album.

Glad you made this post, I’m gonna have a bit of a listen to some of Nas newer stuff, havent listened to a lot of it tbh despite him being my favourite rapper all time, have been kinda off the hip hop buzz for the last few years.
