Is no one following the US Open?

We actually have someone in the men’s semi final for the first time since Murray in 2012.

Doubt he’ll win it, mind. He’ll have to play the winner of Sinner v Medvedev. But you never know.

My partner loves tennis and is following it very intensely. She really does not like Emma Navarro or Jess Pegula because apparently they are nepo babies.

Pegula in particular isn’t the most talented but has won 2 Masters 1000 titles and now reached her 1st grand slam semi after beating the world #1 in Swiatek. Additionally she’s in the top ten and even reached top 6

No matter the money she has that’s hard work paying off.

Pretty much. And they’re not just rich, they’re from insanely wealthy families. Pegula’s family owns the Buffalo Bills and Sabres. Navarro’s dad is some hedge fund guy.

It doesn’t take away from any athletic talent they may have but they’ve had a massive leg up on others who weren’t born into that type of privilege.

She likes Medvedev (who she says looks like a disgruntled dad), Skinner and Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff (but everyone loves her).

I’m not a tennis guy but I do love the purple top that Tiafoe has been wearing.

Random, and going back a bit… but how popular was Andy Roddick in his own country? Did your wife fancy him? I was (still am) obsessed with him.

I even supported him over Murray in the semi final at Wimbledon in 2009 :smile: I remember the year, because 1) I was at uni and had him as my laptop screensaver 2) that match was same day I went to watch Blur in Hyde Park and it was bloody baking. And 3) that Roddick v Federer final that year was bloody amazing.

I’ll ask. She thinks Alcaraz is handsome but I’d be the first to say she finds some very strange looking men attractive (she even married one).

I couldn’t tell you how popular Andy Roddick was here since I didn’t watch any tennis. I remember Andre Aggasi mostly because of his wig and then later the camera commercials he’d do.
