While others judge him on a press conference.
Can’t believe people don’t
Ok:
I might be a little drunk. At a Christmas do. But. From what Arteta has said, this is clearly the best decision anyone has ever made since Victoria said yes to David
It’s normal to have reservations about someone who’s never managed, but I do find some of the comments from people totally writing him off to be laughable. How on Earth can you know that he’s going to flop?
At this moment in time, there’s as much of a chance that he’s an utter disaster as there is that he’s the next Pep. Time will tell, and none of us know. Let’s just hope he’s the class manager that we’re going to need to have any chance at this club now.
I agree, talk is cheap.
Show me the results or shut up.
If Dick and Freddie could not motivate these cunts, I don’t have high hope on Arteta.
arteta will remove them though he has said so already if they do not want to get better or move forward. I know what is gonna be said ‘talk is cheap’ but at the end of the day working with a strong character like pep you think someone like him is gonna let any twat player walk over him he didnt even allow that when he was just a player.
Someone without comparable experience is equally likely to be about the best manager on the planet… or a flop… riiiggghhtt…
Time will tell, but talk is cheap at this stage. We will all give him a chance bc we have no choice anyway, but going from “not sure” to “ohh yeah this is amazing” after a press conference? Not that easy, at least for me.
Sold.
Said all the right things. I am excited.
Will start watching the matches again religiously.
“It says here”
Welcome back Mikel - It’s great to see so far that he has alot of support from the fans.
He’s connecting right away with the fans not just because of his history with us, but he’s communicating the right ideas, and with some time, support from the board, his staff etc. he could surprise alot of people.
Something which struck me is not only the long term plan that he has to bring pride, identity and passion back to the club, but that in the short term he wants to get to the root cause of the issues with these current players.
A mass exodus of the under-performers sounds nice in theory, but in reality we’re still relying on these players in the forseeable near future. Mikel seems personable and determined to change the psychology within these players, which could potentially transform their efforts on the pitch, and the belief they have regarding the direction that this team is going in, together.
After he sees what they’ve got to give, we then hopefully see the transfers that could strengthen the vision he is trying to bring to life. This includes getting rid of those that are still determined not to basically run through walls for him, or have the skill required in their position.
I’m both excited and nervous, this club knows how to break my heart over and over again - but there’s something about Mikel that’s got me ready to risk it all once again…
Beat Leeds and I will grasp the olive branch.
Lose and I’m cutting the tree down. Up to you Mikel. Take it or leave it.
We’re winning the treble lads
And yes @shamrockgooner here is the statement you’ve been waiting for:
Maybe I’m late to the party, but I’m calling it now. This is a freaking disaster. He’ll do no better than Ljungberg. The squad has big morale, team spirit and confidence issues. You don’t solve that by lighting a fire under their asses (as some here suggested, and as Arteta seems to be planning to do).
You solve that by learning to accept pay failures, being kind to yourself and others, and starting to enjoy football again, ignoring results for the moment. Slowly they will improve. Arteta will do the complete opposite.
Ride out the season with no effort and suffer more damage? Fuck off
Arteta doesn’t come across as a braindead PE teacher demanding hard yards. He’s outlined a very intelligent method to the change he’s after.
Yea sorry can’t buy into this. They’ve been “enjoying themselves” for the guts of a decade now. The fire on ass is well overdue.
We’re winning you around slowly stroller mate
??
From what Arteta has said, he is capable of trying to be both ruthless, and also getting to the root cause of why the confidence is low so that the players can enjoy football again. He addresses the need for the players to believe they can play their football here and not be thinking of elsewhere. He explains this in his press conference.
That doesn’t prove anything with no body of evidence to back it up yet.
The ink has barely dried on Arteta’s new contract and already Mourinho is agitated:
Aw Mourinho, is someone a little upset that Arteta got the job? As the saying goes, Arteta might not have to worry about sorting out his home in London when he is already living In Mourinho’s head, rent-free.
