Send him back to Greece for a Souvlaki and Gyros
We didn’t do nothing though. We signed Luiz. That’s obviously a bit shit but it’s not nothing.
The club signed 2 CBs and 2 full backs in the summer. One is a stop gap who would be playing well if we weren’t so outrageously exposed and the other is a huge prospect.
The club clearly didn’t do nothing.
I echo what the others said.
It’s a bit unfair to say they did nothing, and a lazy criticism.
What they did was not address the main issue, and that is the managers’ tactics.
But I think none of us thought Emery would be this bad, so we can let the management off for that.
But now, they have to act I agree.
He is an embarrassment.
faux-est hard man ever.
I rather be embarassed by Mustafi’s mistakes than Sokratis’ ugly ways of going about the game.
What’s even more embarassing is that everyone knows we have VAR now so why the fuck would you think that shit will work?
Did I tell you he is embarassing?
Disappointed in him more than most. Think he’s regressed a lot in this start to the campaign. Looked reliable enough last season but pathetic now.
Agree. I thought we were finally beyond some of the panzy defenders we’ve had in the past with a bit of Greek toughness but from the end of last season to the beginning of this season he’s made bone headed error after bone headed error that have cost us points.
he’s nearly sunk as low as mustafi and Luiz for me. Maybe even caught them up.
At least you wouldn’t get that with Mustafi
I think the point has been made that with our current set up, meaning wide open fucking midfield, there’s not a CB in world football that would be looking good in our team atm. Papa isn’t the best CB in the world but I’m not going to criticize him too much, I think he’s been really solid. Hasn’t given up any pens, sure he was beaten for their 2nd goal but everyone knows that was because our midfield is non existent, and porous at best. He has been solid and I’ll reserve judgement on him until our midfield starts being somewhat cohesive.
One positive thing I’ve seen, from both he and Luiz, is their positioning in the box on crosses. At least we’ve shored that aspect of the game up, we haven’t been beaten in the air quite as often as we had been in previous seasons.
Just seen the handball shout on SSN for the first time… What the fuck was he doing haha. Really surprised the ref didn’t give it.
Honestly think he’s a solid defender if he has a decent manager.
Emery makes him do the brain dead shit he does on the regular?
He should be doing fantastic already then
To some degree, yes. Pretty obvious our system sucks for defenders. Sokratis is quick for a CB, seems to deal with aerial balls decent enough and gives us a bit of grit and toughness. Do you actually watch many modern CBs? Seems like there are very few top quality defenders at all.
He is a yellow card magnet with little to no composure, we’d see similar under a better manager in terms of individual errors.
He’s not up to standard.
I don’t think that would be the case. Much easier for a defender to deal with problems and not make bad mistakes when there is more protection from the midfield.
We have no top quality defenders at the club, but silly to say he isn’t decent enough.
He makes mistakes under little pressure.
He’s clearly a stop gap signing but not what we needed from an experienced defender tbh. Having him and Luiz with their propensity for chicken head defending will continue to cost us throughout the season.
Fair enough if you believe in him more than I do.
I agree he’s a stop-gap, doesn’t mean he isn’t decent, in fact that’s sort of what a stop-gap is. Like I said, we have no top quality defenders at the club.
I think he is less mistake prone than Luiz and offers us a bit of leadership from the back.
He kept up with Rashford all night. Man is deceptively fucking quick
