Robin van Persie

Yeah, well calling him a kid might not be accurate. But he was far from the finished product. He was 21 which is how old Guendouzi is now. RvP like Matteo was also known for having a disciplinary issues. In my head Guendouzi is still a kid. Maybe I’m just old.

But you can agree that a 21 year old still has 3-4 yeArs until his prime

Now imagine Guendouzi turns into Gerrard

It’s all business. That is why I don’t get us as fans getting so frustrated with certain players if they leave / demand loyalty. If Reyes didn’t get homesick Arsenal might have never put the same effort in his development and he would have left through the back door…

He was a perma croc who crossed 30 apps in just 1 season out of the 8 he spent here. In his early years, he showed flashes of brilliance, but was consistent only for 2 seasons.

I remember calls at that time to ditch him given his inability to stay fit, but Wenger true to his nature stuck by him to eventually see him come good. And the reward, he embarassed us in public, walked to our most hated rivals and doesn’t let an opportunity by to stick it to us.

He is the antithesis of a legend for this club. He is one of those rare players who won’t be fondly remembered by any of his former teams given his cuntish nature and selfish personality. He deserved to by hung out to dry by Fergie after what he did to us. The cunt can die in obscurity for all I care.

Well… His very first professional club, Excelsior, named a stand after him and at Feyenoord they love him. He’s back there as a striker coach too. That doesn’t seem entirely true. That all his former clubs dislike him.

As I said only a handful of jnstances where you can see him dribble for more than 10-20 yards.

These are more a compilation of tricks to deceive the opponent and then pass the ball.
Not a bad attribute but not dribbling.

Persie was not a dribbling specialist per se, not at all at level of Sanchez who could dribble past players on consistent basis multiple times a game for fun and would carry the ball ten times further than Persie ever could.

I’d actually be interested to hear what Moyes says about him, especially if the reports on him and Rio downing tools at ManUre are true

Yeah he didn’t have the pace for that, he definitely is not a ball carrier.

Exactly my point when I say that he was not complete.
Good dribbler on spot but can hardly carry the ball, Good passer without much passing range, etc etc…

To diminish or even question RvP’s quality on the pitch is insanity. Everything else can be a debate but you have to be incredibly ignorant to deny a truly special talent.

For me talent and performance is bigger than anything else. Bigger than anyones opinion.

He goes down in the same category as Luis Suarez for me as a “short stay” Premier League great.

No one has done that in last 30-40 posts

He left Excelsior when he was 16 after falling out with his coaches over his petulant attitude. At this rate Dirk Kuyt should have stands named after him all over the country given he has played for half of the clubs that exist in The Netherlands.

At Feyenoord, he fought with every person, including the fans and the club eventually gave up on him. It was one of the reasons we were able to pick him up on the cheap.

We nurtured him, persisted with him and all he did was stab us in the back. The ‘little boy in me’ comment still irritates the fuck out of me.

Bruh. You said nobody/former clubs would think back of him fondly. Fact of the matter is that some of his former teams do remember him fondly. I think when you ask United fans they will think back fondly of what he did in 12/13.

Kuyt only played for FC Utrecht and Feyenoord in the Netherlands.

Arsenal was getting rid of everybody and their mum during that time. I remember Wenger claiming he was forced to make a provit on the market. But somehow van Persie and Cesc are the backstabbers.

He’s also a cunt

It’s more a general point seeing as it’s worth reminding people we’re not talking about your standard very good player here. We’re talking about a 30-40 goal a season CF with jaw dropping technical ability. I skimmed the thread but I did see some talk of him lacking certain abilities and Sanchez comparisons.

Short stay? He was in long term f’ckin parking :joy:

Couldn’t really come up with a better term as there aren’t multiple predefined “types” of PL greats but he clearly has an incredible record per appearance.

My point was the he has behaved like a cunt wherever he has gone. Going back to finish his career at Feyenoord to rebuilt some bridges isn’t cutting it.

Ask any United fan on whether they’d put him in the top 15 list in the last decade and you won’t find many. Would any Arsenal fans consider him a club legend, the answer is in this thread. Fenerbahce - No. Maybe that’s why he keeps referencing us in press all the time, hoping that some fans will forgive him beliving his made up story.

The Kuyt comment was hyperbole and you missed Quick Boys

Considering he propelled them to their last league title (possibly their last for a long time) I find that astonishingly hard to believe. They’d supposedly ignore that huge contribution over some paper talk over a post-Fergie bust up? When they have all this Pogba agent shit going on these days? Sounds nuts.

I will go ahead and ask some United fans as I’d be shocked if you’re in any way right about this.

I lurk a lot on redcafe and generally most United fans there really appreciate Van Persie and were happy to have had him. Acknowledging his extraordinary talent.

I wouldn’t be surprised if many of them put him in their top 15 United players. He made a direct impact the short period of time he was there.

You literally said this:

He is one of those rare players who won’t be fondly remembered by any of his former teams given his cuntish nature and selfish personality.

This statement simply isn’t true. From remembering fondly to putting him in a top 15 list is also changing the goal posts. Just because they wouldn’t put him in their top 15 that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t have fond memories of him. Plus he doesn’t keep on referencing us all the time. He works in the media, if he would do that you would here a lot more of it.

Quick boys is an amateur club. Not sure why I would count them.
