If wiki is right he made only one appearance for Palace. He played 14 PL games for us the season he joined them :jorginho:

PS why couldn’t the rapids have signed him for 40m two seasons ago.

I didn’t know Rob Holding even played for Palace

I just looked back at his FBRef page and he’s been in the PL nine seasons now and only started 10+ matches once.

He’ll always have that glorious 20-21 season when his only real competition was David Luiz and Pablo Mari though.

his best moment was the FA Cup final against Diego Costa

One of the worst players I’ve ever seen here.

He was poor but still no way close to Silvestre.

wouldn’t go that far, of the top of my head we had Silvestre, Squallaci, Sanogo, Chamakh, Almunia and Sterling

Silvestre was pretty bad, so was Stepvanovs - both had more than Holding. Entering a title race with City, with Holding starting down the stretch still haunts me.

And people still complain about us signing all the defenders.

You’ve all forgotten the great Brazilian Andre Santos

Nope, stepanovs was simply awful and far worse than Holding

Wenger had a habit of buying players just to have a body there, regardless of their quality lol.

Absolute poverty defences for such a long time. Something I have to give Arteta credit for; though Rob Holding should’ve been sold/released eons ago.

Was certainly good enough to shut Costa down in the cup final alongside Mertesacker who was playing his only start of the season

Imagine the scenes if Holding was this shit while costing ÂŁ55m :joy:

“I’m sorry he didn’t cost 55 Million, so he cannot be good”

Wenger using the same old excuse for not spending.

He never used to say this when questioned about his spending on some of the cheap skate attacking signings he made like Sanogo, Park, Chamakh, Gervinho, etc.

Holding was ok but a lot of his defensive signings were worse like Sylvestre, Senderos, Cygan, Squillaci, Santos, Stepanovs, Luzhny, Mustafi, etc, and he never seemed to learn that buying cheap, when you need “super quality,” often doesn’t work.

Just imagine if you could combine Arteta’s defence with Wrnger’s attacks.

Holding was crap and we lost money on him despite on costing 2m

I absolutely vilified Cygan when he was at the club but I do wonder in retrospect if he was really that bad or it was just the standard of the squad he was in that made him look that way :joy:
