Rob Holding

True but didn’t have to be that way though, Arteta fumbled and couldn’t find a solution instead of playing someone who clearly isn’t anywhere near the requisite level especially when it’s do or die.

He was never ever going to displace Andersen and Guehi, he was always brought in as 3-4th choice

Just shows how lucky he’s been to play for Arsenal for so many years.

Wenger & Arteta what were you thinking…

Arteta named him captain before

Embarrassing. Who else was on the pitch at that time?

And even that’s a stretch for him given where the PL has moved in terms of CBs

I respect that. Guehi and Andersen are some of the league’s best defenders.
However, zero minutes in the league so far is shocking to hear.

Even as a sub you would think he would get something.

Aren’t you guys making too big of a deal of this?

He joined Crystal Palace late in the window and has only been available for 6 games.

Out of those 6 games, Crystal Palace won just one game.
Why would a manager sub on a defender when they are drawing or trailing in a match?

Much fuss about nothing this.

Basically this.

He ain’t our player any more. Onwards and upwards.

Thr stain of Holding will take years to clear.

Cost us top four and a title. Those scars will never heal for me.

Holding didn’t cost us a title. Everyone dropped the ball in that run in.

The Top 4 Run in where he got sent off against Spurs was a big fail on his end however.

I’ll die on that hill. He was so far below the level that it forced us to change how we were playing. Partey notably dropped into CB to pickup balls. He’s not the only one to blame but he is a big culprit imo.

The major is dead, the captain is dead, the lieutenant is dead, now you want a private who got paid as a private and qualified as a private to do a major’s job. He failed and then you are blaming why he can’t do that job.

You want another major to cover that dead major, but we are only able to to pay the fees of a private for that position.

Which good CB was willing to come here, got a pay cut, and be Saliba and Gabriel’s back up with limited minutes??

I never thought Holding was good enough, but stop blaming him and make him a scapegoat.

I’m not a scout but the fact we kept him around two years too long when we had (allegedly) money on the table from Newcastle is pure negligence. There had to have been at least one CB in world football who would didn’t have two bidets for feet that we could have brought in.

Our budget was probably at max, then that’s why we can’t get an upgrade; or we were saving budget for future.

In the end, moving Holding away or not, was management responsible, nothing should be on the player himself.

Yeah I’m absolutely not blaming him for staying. He made good money, lived in London, won FA Cups, it’s gotta be a lot of fun.

Holding helped us win the FA Cup in 2017. He was never the greatest defender but he always gave his best and was always respectful of the club. It wasn’t his fault that he didn’t have the talent to be a starter at Arsenal, but he gave it everything and was clearly proud to play for the club. I wish him well, and thank him for his contribution to the club.

He definitely played a part in it but I will never have it as an excuse for 8-9 players playing like shit in that period.

That’s a strange way to spell “Emile Smith Rowe”
