RIP Diego Maradona

Rijkaard spitting Busquets :see_no_evil::wink:

Tbf Rijkaard was the one who promoted Basquets to the first team.

He promoted Busquets means what? Means, latter is, better?

If they had a chance to play against each other, I guess Frank would definitely spit on the dirty cheater and diver.

Ignoring the fact Milan’s 4-4-2 would get overun in midfield and dominated in possesion, Barce have Messi, Milan don’t stand much of a chance imo

How on earth did you draw that conclusion? :joy: I was referring to the famous incident Rijkaard vs Vƶller.

Baresi, enough said.

Oh but then wait, there’s Maldini on Messi’s flank.

Oh but then wait, there’s Costacurta too.

Give over.

Donadoni would be the game breaker in a game like that.

Unreal team Milan had in the 90s. Those 3 defenders are all world class. What was (is) it about Italy and producing world class defenders?

We love to see our rival/opponent lose more than our own victory. Probably slightly biased but I think it’s fair to say Milan alone have probably 5 of the top 10 defenders of all time. Italy have maybe the top 7/8.

If you acknowledge Passerella as the other we have a deal.

I’m too young to remember/have seen (33), but my dad always mentioned him when I said how incredible Nesta was in my early teens.

So overlooked. My pops spoke so highly of him and his qualities.

Yeah looks like Italy has the most elite defenders in the history of football. Some other notable names that come to mind are:

Tony Adams, Ronald Koeman, Zanetti, Puyol, Stam, Roberto Carlos, Desailly, Laurent Blanc, Cafu, Thuram, Mattheus, Beckenbauer.

But of course, Italy has more like Nesta, Cannovaro, Fiachetti, Scirea, probably forgetting some names.

Bobby Moore?

I included him in the new thread I made :raised_hands:t5:

Passerella, Krol and Sceria for me should be on that list.

Could only have 20 max. Sorry, I think I can add 2 more. Check the thread for an update.

Watching the re-run of the '86 game against Argentina and of course, Maradona…Obviously we all know the outcome, but just seeing the build up and Englands previous games in the tourny…How fucking good was Glenn Hoddle???

Criminal that he only won 53 caps.
I hated Spurs with real passion during these years, still do, but not as fiercely now I’m afraid…but always loved Glenn Hoddle, absolutely magnificent footballer…

Before my time, but some peope say he was a luxury player. But really all of his teams including England should of been built around him, like teams did with Platini and Maradona. Playing Hoddle as a 10 nearer to goal would see his end product go up. I don’t know what England were doing not starting Barnes too.

Here he is playing under Wenger’s Monaco, Wenger wanted to pair Chris Waddle with Hoddle.

Yeah your right. This was the era of Glenda and not getting stuck in jibes.
Platini drew the comparison with himself of what the French done with him.
Couple of ball winners and leave the rest to Platini.
