Riccardo Calafiori (33)

Makes no sense whatsoever to consider selling. Have to give him a second season. Our priority must be strengthening our attack this summer!

Remember we prioritised this signing over signing an attacking player

No we didn’t. There is no basis to say that! We were clearly looking to buy a striker and winger last season but couldn’t secure our targets.

no point him being here if he’s never available though. It’s just a wasted spot.

Also, who was our striker and winger targets last season?

We took out a good chunk of our budget to buy him and limited our ability to do anything in summer or winter.

Not only that but there were discussions and concern about whether it was worth the outlay particularly when considering past injury record

Guess who got his man though

We didn’t spend that much last summer and nothing in winter. It wasn’t down to a lack of transfer funds.

Joan Garcia would have been signed last season if funds were not an issue.

Yep, I agree with everyone, time to move this chump on

I don’t think a fee was ever agreed…seem to remember the club insisting on us paying the full release clause for him.

£76m spent on Cala + Vieira… damn

Other than the fact he plays 45 minutes of football and then is broken again.

Sesko and Williams wasn’t it?

Arteta said in his presser they pushed him to come back for the last few games and he wasnt ready he was back weeks earlier than expected. he felt a bit tired so they let him rest.

Clearly a cover up

He’ll run others into the ground but let Calafiori have a much needed rest after 45 minutes of football and a summer break coming up

Makes sense, especially with Tierney and Zinchenko being available and having the opportunity to play their last games for us.
No reason to risk him in a pointless match.

Was he? Which one of White, Saliba, Gabriel or Timber was he ahead of when we signed him?

I don’t think Timber was ever meant to be utilised at LB for a prolonged period even without White going down so yeah, that LB spot was open for business.

Well Timber was playing there before he went down too. I don’t really see the evidence, apart from your own speculation, that Calafiori was definitely brought in to be the starting left back.

It seems more likely he was supposed to be in the mix among a versatile group of defenders.
